Mind you, have you ever seen German opera? Make a will in case you die of boredom, and take a flask of hot soup and a sleeping bag. I can easily see how providing some entertainment in the intervals would actually go down a treat, but surely it's serious "wannabe" territory to do so at a Derren Brown gig.

I suppose option b) borders on partial exposure anyway.

So DB's explanations aren't true!?

Snap. That's why it didn't work when I tried to imitate.....
But seriously, i don't know to what extent his stories hold.

I'd never say something like that to any performer. Firstly out of respect for him/her and secondly because you look like a numpty.
"I know what you're doing, so don't try to fool me" comes across as "watch how easily I fool because im looking for all the wrong things".

Even when I'm a capable magician, I wouldn't say anything to someone showing me magic, perhaps until they'd finished. It's not nice.

Well I think Derren has done me a great favour. He's done a lot of the ground work on people believing in the abilities as a result people are more impressed and they have seen some one as good as or 'better' than Derren Brown. I don't know if Derren has actually explicity revealed methods, he just alludes to a particular method. If when performing you try to believe that you are doing it in the way you want them to but act as if you are trying to cover it up, then the direction you give from the pretend cover will fool them into believing you were trying to cover something up that reveals the method. Derren Brown sets the ground work in their minds, these things are possible this is what to look out for etc etc. By drawing attention to these fakes you complete their belief in how it's done.

You tell them it's just a trick but actually you back them into believing you have these abilities.

At his last show he did a vamped up tossed out deck. It amused me listening to the people behind me at the interval discussing the psychological and hypnotic methods he used to divine the three cards.
People seeing Derren using playing cards in a "psychological" show makes me far happier to use cards on occasion.
He's made the life of every close up mentalist far easier, far less drunken "it's just a magic trick" people are willing to believe it's genuine without any explanation. Thankyou Derren.

I think its funner to go along with them. It would spoil all the magic if I told them otherwise.

Reminded me of a quote by Woody Allen

" I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland"

That is all
