Hi everyone I had another question for you. After Vacation I have to present a magic show, actually it is more of a 10 minutes presentation. Here is the theme: Do a magic trick for roughly 10 minutes, with music (that makes it, I cannot talk) so if anyone has a proposition of which trick I could present. Audience is approximatively 30 people. I was thinking doing D'lights but I don't have them yet so I'll ask you before buying anything.

There's so much that you can do to music, but becareful because it's not easy and really do have to get your choreography spot on if you want it to look good.

What sort of music are you thinking of using? I've done ropes, silks and sponges all to music and they can all work really well.

You'll first need to work out your rough routine, what are you going to do magically. Then it's a case of finding the music that's going to fit the mood of your routine. Once you've done this, you'll need to listen to the music, find some cues and fit your routine into it.

10 minutes is quite a long time for a silent routine so I'd make sure that you mix it up abit, throw in a few suprises here and there to keep things interesting.

Your options are quite limited also as there are very few songs that are ten minuets long.

I wouldn't use a song, I'd much rather go for an instrumental piece of music. In that case, length isn't really a problem. You can always mess around with it and add a couple of loops to stretch it out to a satisfactory length.

Hold on; hold on. I can't let Lady of Mystery's comment go by unchallenged.

Ten minutes may not be a problem for a piece of instrumental music, but it is practically eternity for a single magic trick with NO patter.

Is it possible to have this time cut back? 'Way back? 'Way, 'WAY back?

cheers,

Well!!! The cheek of it!!!!

I did say in my first post that 10 minutes is a long time. I personally don't think that a performance should last more than about 5 minutes unless it really is something special.

I don't know what music I'll play yet but I think I decided to do D'lites and rope only problem is which rope trick there is one I know which is on David Stone. Can you people give me some suggestions on which rope trick to do and where I can buy it?

How long is vacation as it would make more sense to use something you know well already, rather than trying to do something new. Also does it actually state that you can't talk or is that your decision with there being music. Otherwise if you find suitable background music with your usual patter the music can greatly enhance the performance. Music doesn't have to mean silent performance.

I despise Mark Mason. I can't explain it I just do. Aside from that, that effect looks rather cool but far to expensive for me to justify on D'Lites.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

vacation is 2 weeks but the show is in 4 weeks so I don't have such a constraint in time. But I still need to know which trick I have to perform in at least one week otherwise I won't have enough time to practice. So please if you have a good trick USING A ROPE for me please post it right away :D
Otherwise for the song I can very well put 2 or 3 songs
And one last thing I wouldn't spend more than 50 pounds on a prop so the proposition of dat8962 ( MISERS DELIGHT PRO X ) but it is quite expensive... But thanks anyway!

The Karl Fulves self working rope magic has enough for a solid enough rope routine. A good few flourishes, appearing/disappearing knots, cut and restored rope, etc. Think it has a few methods for rope through body, but I'd have to check that and don't have it available. I think it has methods for tying the ropes to do spirit cabinets as well.

I decided which tricks I was going to do:
First the D'lite routine for 5 minutes without talking
Then I'll do a card trick which resembles to "Ash" (The trick where you have the selected card appear on the magicians arm) but it will not appear on the magician's arm it will appear on the spectator's arm
The only problem is I don't know the name of the trick so does anyone know the name?
By the way thank you to all the answers you replied!

Just me personally but I wouldnt do a card trick.

Youve just done d'lites, a quirky magical 'thing'.

The AsH card trick then seems to go a bit slow (would it wrk with music?).

What about rings or rope?

That would seem more continuous...
