Probably a bit of a wild goose chase this but I'm curious.

it's recently dawned on me that my first experience of mentalism wasn't Derren Brown 2005 after all, it was my mum ....

When i was a kid she had a party piece that proceeded like this...

a word was written on a piece of paper by a spectator and balled up
mom created a grid about 10 by 10 of messy hand scrawled random letters covering the entire alphabet.
she would tell the spectator to place his balled up word on a certain letter, this would be repeated a few times and when the ball was placed on an ambiguously drawn letter, say a W that could be an M, she would reach down to move it to the correct letter and s**tch the ball, then repeat the process to return it.

i just thought we would both get a kick out of finding a specific creator and effect name for this particular handling of a b*ll*t Sw**ch routine.

i am aware of how unlikely finding it is but i might get lucky.
