I agree with the suite without tie. Looks more proffesional than choice #1 on this poll.

I wonder how many of them perform professionally though?

The general rule of thumb would be to always be smarter dressed than those you are peforming to. So if they are casual - wear a suit. If they wear a suit - wear the DJ.

(Excluding themed acts - where costume is chosen over attire)

I havent voted, because there isnt really the category to cover what I wear.

When I do my stage act as part of say a modern variety show, I wear a stylish Jacket with a nice slim cut, and the jacket has threads of silver running through it. I wear a sparkly skinny tie, a white slim cut shirt which is either tucked in or left loose depending on how I feel. I wear clean cut skinnyish jeans which have a bit of sparkle to them. Then I either wear white shoes or black shoes.

When doing a wedding, I always wear my Embossed Dinner Jacket, Clean cut trousers with the stripe down the side, a white dress shirt and usually a purple bow tie.

For a casual Walk-around, I would probably wear very similar to my stage wear.


What I do always do is take a choice of costume when im doing the stage show. This is so I can look at the rest of the cast (if im part of a variety show) or look at the audience (if its my one man show). This way you dont have to panic if you turn out and its a little more formal than you thought it would be.

I'm an historian I'm stuck much further back than that. Anyway while not a pro I still feel looking slightly smarter than the audience is the better option. It sets you apart from the audience giving you the authority to be in control.
