Do you have 13 steps? There's an entire step on this in that book? 13 steps to mentalism by Corinda.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

As said 13 steps has a section on this. Lebanon circle has a number of suitable effects as does Blackhart. Or at least ones that you can adapt to how you want. Your probably going to get a lecture from Craig asking why you want to do seance effects, but I'm sure it'll all be good advice that will be worth taking onboard. Probably a good idea to introduce yourself in the proper section of the forums and you'll get more positive responses.

Servants of the supernatural was a nice read on the history of the seance. Doesn't cover how to do effects, but knowing the history of this sort of thing seems like an important bit of knowledge. Creating the right atmosphere is important.

Is this post for real?

If you have no experience in something don't post just to hear yourself type. This post is quite confusing, incomplete and reads as if a 12 year old wrote it.

Though I thought I'd already posted this... the $1,000.00 Seance as well as Mephisto's Journey from Hilford are most excellent however, you don't just toss this and that odd effect into a pile and call it a seance. Programs of this sort require time, planning, scripting, blocking and more. A few of the pros here will tell you that you don't have to do a single "trick" and you'll still have them squirm (get Paul Bell's manuscript if your serious).

Yes, The Book of Haunted Magick has some decent material in it that could be used in a Seance... so does Corinda and Annemann, but you have to know what you're looking at and how to adapt it. For that matter a friend of mine is trying to sell his Wizard's Board if you happen to have a spare $2,000.00 laying around and it's more than anyone will ever need.

yes it is. bear with my little 12 year old brains. glad we agree on Docc. And its not my business to tell him how to routine or plan or whatever...i pointed him out where he may found some effects he can use for his seance. he asked where he could get them i answered. no need being rude.

maybe you mean witch board? its a great effect but i dont have the spare meoney for that yet :)

 Yes... withcboard is it... my memory don't work all that well.

Pardon my "rudeness" and I must admit that I just now realized that English probably isn't your first language which is probably why your posts confuse me so... I was assuming you were yet another child trying to be cute with the current Ebonic mode of "communication", if you get my drift.

Witchboard is probably the best thing Peter Loughran (sp) has ever put out and that's not just my opinion, it is the opinion of several others. I am a hint bent about it in that I had mentioned this idea to him long ago when discussing his moving Candle effect. He has however, added some really nice things to the system that I'd never considered in the past.

When it comes to Seance work I have come to the conclusion that planning out the more Hollywood style of program is impractical on all fronts UNLESS, you have a fixed facility to work in and thus, don't need to lug everything around and spend an hour pre-rigging the room... it just takes so much away from the function. :?

Self-Contained systems are always the best route of travel be it a routine such as our own Paul Bell has recently produced, Docc's $1,000.00 Seance, Have Seance Will Travel by Bro. Shadow or simply the act of Channeling and presenting a Q&A styled program ala John Edward or using a standard OUIJA Board styled routine. After all, if you really break it down to its barest of bones this is what a Seance is all about; answering questions NOT delivering 1,001 manifestations.

Manifestations need to be subtle... it's amazing what you can accomplish with just a bit of string and some heavy fishing line weights or music box gears. Even something like having an object on a sideboard move a foot or so, something only a few members of the gathered group witness, has potent psychological impact on everyone present... even more impact than you would have if that moving item were the point of focus.

OUIJA is a powerful tool and I would suggest anyone interested in Seance work learn about this device (http://www.museumoftalkingboards.com/) as well as ways of using it (Jim Magus "The Talking Board" is highly recommended). You really need little other when it comes to "props"

Yes, you can do more but my encouragement is to keep it simple and work with what you and perhaps one accomplice (optional) can carry in and readily set into play without anyone knowing (I often conceal this pre-show activity as being a "cleansing" rite for the room, my aid using a sage stick to smudge things in private (doors closed, everyone out but him).

Another area to look at is black-art and how it was used in the Seance arena by exploiting shadows, niches in the room or large closets that allow your secret imp to move in and out freely (I will typically use a small built person that is exceptionally limber/agile and light on their feet... check out dance studios, gymnastics clubs, and martial arts studios if you are looking for such)

That should pretty much do it... at least for the stuff I'm willing to tip

No problem Craig! I do admit though that i usually write in a forum as i speak and it is a more informal way - maybe thats what had caught your eye.

alan1, Craigs advice bsically covers it all. you should have enough input now to start 10 different seances ;)

if i may add a bit of advice...check out some physics and maybe chemistry books or books like "fun with physics" or something like that. there are obviously no magic effects inside but you might get interested ideas from some of the experiments that you will find there.
