hey you guys my name is Brad Cartier. I was looking for a good forum to post on so I came here and it looked pretty good. Umm my signature says I am 14 and a working profesional. I am not trying to be cute or a smart ass. But I have more experience than some adults. My Grandpa is Del Cartier He was one of the best magicians of his time about 50 years ago. He lives in NY he has introduced me to many magicians in NY like Simon Lovell, Jamie Swiss, Micheal Chaut, John Cassidy, George Schindler (former SAM president), and Eric Decamp are some famous names. You may have never heard of Del Cartier unless studied magic the right way learning the history not just buying tricks from the internet and from the local store. I am starting to gain momentum in enterianing and it is steadily growing for me. I love magic and would love to learn from you guys and give my opinion aswell.

My expertise are stand up and close up.
I love cards and other stuff not so much coins but I can live with them

I am open to any sugestions on stand up stuff. so if you have some advice just tell me I would love to hear it.

Hello Brad, welcome to TM
You may have never heard of Del Cartier unless studied magic the right way learning the history not just buying tricks from the internet and from the local store.

Del Cartier isn't a name I know so I'm sure we'd all love to hear more about him so do tell all! The History of Magic is fascinating - there's a UK TV Series on at the moment which goes in to a lot of the of history and effects - I guess PBS may get around to showing it at some point. For many of us in the UK, the local magic store no longer exists and our main source of miracles is on-line. Fortunately this also means we can buy from almost anywhere on the planet and there's a lot of historical sources out there if we search deep enough. As far as I'm concerned, knowing a bit about the history of a routine or a performer/inventor makes the while thing more meaningful and worthwhile.

My grandpa was not a big and super famous magician. he was more of an underground magician, he worked night clubs, broadway, stuff like that. he met many famous magician such as Dia Vernon, Blackstone senior and junior. You would not necessarily read about him in the hisrory of magic. but he was in pheonix magizne(an old magic magizine). I believe that is the one, I am not sure because some one told me that you could get the issues from pheonix magizine but then I was looking on the internet and I could not find anything on pheonix magzine the magic magazine. If you know about this or maybe what I mean tell me. I am going to call him and ask I am not sure. But yeah he was a big magician but more underground he went to every convention, He was a member of The Four F's (Fechter's Finger Flicking Frolic), David Copperfield came and sat in my grandpa's house and asked for advice.

The sad thing is he is like 80 years old so a lot of magicians have no idea who he is you would have to be like 55 or 60 to know him.

He was a young kid and he met BlackStone sr. and he wanted to be come a magician. so he joined this young performers group where kid would perform singing, dancing, jokes, etc. so he did that and the prizes were like 1st place $5 2nd place $3 participation was like $1. Then he worked clubs when he got older and then he joined the army and was not performing to much. But when he got out he started doing his standup acts where he did a cigarette routine. he worked clubs again with close up and he was at a club when this guy said he could be his agent so then he was performing for a long time with the agent and then he stopped being a pro. But he was still in magic a lot. with groups and everything.

so I hope you liked that. And if you know about this Pheonix magazine that would be nice to hear about.

A comment about the quote of me and the history of magic thing. I met a kid who was about 19 and he knew all about my grandpa and was honored to meet him. He knew my grandpa probably because his mentor is very strong minded on studying all the old books and basics.

Del's name can be found on line. He is mentioned in the interviews given over at the Bunny by Milt Kort, shortly before his passing.
He was also an asscociate of Paul Curry.
A search will also show his name mentioned over at the genii , by Pete Biro, and a host of others.
