Hey all, just two questions:

1) I live and work in Singapore. Would the cultural differences mean that Naked Mentalism might not work as well here?

2) Assuming the answer to the previous question is a resounding "NO", meaning I can most definitely use the material in NM and NM2 to the same level of success here in Singapore, will NM3 be out soon?

Back in June Tomo said it's coming out in a few months, so just wondering if I should wait for NM3 and then hopefully get a good bundle deal instead.

The priming concepts discussed in NM 1 and 2 are applicable to any westernised society. They're deliberately common to human experience rather than focusing on individual cultures. The Naked Book Test is specific to English, however, because of its underlying data model.

NM3 is going to be late. There's a huge amount of material to write up - this will be everything I know about cognitive biases and logical fallacies, and how to use them, both directly in effects and to enhance how you are perceived by your spectators. There are also the effects themselves to write up. It's looking like being released after Christmas unless someone can magic up some extra time for me.

While we're here and on the topic, I was wondering what the sort of difficulty level of the material, and general content of the book is.

I know its way ahead of me at the moment, im still nowhere near 13 steps, but i like to think ahead, and the 'nakedness' appeals to me. As it would to most.
And what I believe to be a more impromptu nature (though I could be wrong).

Would it be suitable to read early on in the study of these kinds of materials? Are there a lot of interesting concepts that can be taken from it, even if the actual techniques and effects are beyond the reader?

The real skill in using Naked techniques lies in how you handle near misses. There's a lot in the books covering this but like all things, the more you put in the more you get out.

I'm not sure I've ever read magic books like these. I am not saying "best books ever written!!!" or anything but they are not to be taken lightly even in that context.
What I mean is that they are 'naked' even in their presentation. They are packed with information backed with thoughtful analysis.

The potential uses for the information contained in these books boggles my mind. These are not books that are designed primarily to teach you some tricks, even though they do. These books are meant to enrich the way you are able to perform everything you perform and I thik they actually succeed.

Hehe, I realise I am getting a little poetic here but in all seriousness I am truly impressed.

its the probably one of the main reasons why i like the books too - some people can look at some sections of the book and say "ooooh lists?!"

but once you understand how to use that data, and let your imagination go wild - you can create lots of different presentations with all that.

Be it as a warm up, an ending to a routine, all kinds of things. THe mental epic styled routine i use, where for the final picture, you turn the tables on them, THEY have to read your mind instead. And you're using a psychological force for that.

well, psychological force/cultural stereotype....

Anyway - jolly good books, very interesting indeed too, just to read through it...plus there's a certain knack to "miming" along with these things to really help things along...

Hi Tomo just out of interest, this aforementioned TalkMagic discount: what would be the price if I bought it combined with Naked Mentalism 2?

I may not be buying it JUST yet, but very soon. Although I am toying with Alchemical Tools by Paul Brook, but yours has the edge in price. I like the Naked Book Test premise, but more than anything I'm just looking for an enjoyable book about magic to read.

I've noted that if you buy the ebooks together, it works out cheaper (i'd much rather have the hard copy though). Flowing from this, if one was to buy BOTH hard books together, would you get a combined discount IN ADDITION to the TalkMagic discount?

I think the price has absolutely pipped Alchemical Tools to the post.

On my (now separate) Books CUPS List, after these two purchases Sleight Of Mind and Geist by Harling and Nyrup will be the last magic book purchase.

ALSO, the prices of £24.28 and £29.49 for NM and NM2 respectively: I can't be sure whether these prices are INCLUSIVE of postage and packaging.

I love this book! Simple things like the colour mind-reading priming example in number one have got me jobs on their own! When you tell them the colour they are thinking of, and all the colours they changed their mind to, and in what order, you can't really improve upon it!
