I was wondering if the is a specific type of rope that is best for "rope tricks"?

Cotton rope is most probably the best, with it being soft and uncored.

Also, just another tip: DON'T do rope through neck using one of those cheap pashmina scarves. You just might kill yourself! I tried and the scarf wouldn't go through. No idea why though.

You can get magicians rope from magicbox as well as other places. It was a nice, soft rope which makes it great for doing tricks. You can usually get two different thicknesses, I use the thicker one for most of my tricks but find the thinner one better if you're doing any finger ring on rope type routines.

I usually get my rope from Daryl's website - foolerdoolers.com

It is apparently sourced from Japan, and is wonderfully durable, soft, and very cheap too. The rope comes in a variety of colours, and it's has the core hollowed out to make knots and rope sleights easier to do.

Davenports do a variety of coloured rope at around 50p per metre in red, green, yellow, blue and white. Very suitable for routines whe you need to cut the rope.

Also try House of Magic in Stourbridge, West Midlands who do a good selection too.

I've found these to be about the best rope suppliers for quality in the UK.

There are 2 types of rope, cored and uncored but they are always referred to as Magicians Rope. Some effects rely on Cored Rope such as rope to silk others such as ambitious knot etc simply need soft rope.

Rope Tricks

:D Hey guys-- this guy's in Canada. A long way to Davenports!!

Try the Magic Shops in Vancouver
Then, for starters, there are shops in Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Winipeg, Buffalo, & other towns,Seattle (small shop near the Canadian border) and of course, Dollar Magic in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

That will save on bus fare or car petrol.

Generally Kemo, it's the cotton rope you want and it can come in thin, medium(normal use) & thick (as for Ropes Through Body)

If you do Cut & Restored Rope the look for Rope Shears which will cut through in one quick easy cut.
Too many magicians often 'saw through the rope)
