I'm running the event in conjunction with my old mates Fright Nights. They have the infrastructure to do all the admin, they can accept payment via their site and/or phone lines, they have deals already in place with Middleton Hall for hiring the place, plus by having the event featured in their site we may also get a few non-magi along as well (so you can all turn to the non-magi next to you at the table and smile smugly while whispering "I know how they do that!").

Having said that, I do see this as being primarily a TM school outing, with most of the performers (if not all) being culled from the forum. I do already have some names in place, while others are in the process of being chased! Will reveal all when everyone is in place.

I'll also obviously let you all know when the web page on Fright Nights goes "live". Watch this space as they say. :D

Ooh - thought it may be nice to let you all know the proposed timetable for the night:

7:00 - 7.30 Informal gathering and introductions in the bar area.
7.30 - 8.00 Official welcome, introductions, and impromptu readings/hypnosis/ghost walk hybrid type thing with someone called Paul Voodini. Apparently he's the Voodoo Houdini.
8.00 - 8.30 First course of meal.
8.30 - 9.00 A parlour demonstration of "pure magic".
9.00 - 9.50 Second course of meal and break.
9.50 - 10.20 A parlour demonstration of mind-reading.
10.20 - 10.45 Coffee and break.
10.45 - 11.15 A parlour demonstration of bizarre magic.
11.15 - 11.45 Impromptu magical demonstrations from guests wishing to participate in "magical karaoke"!
11.45 - 12.00 Thank you's, good-byes, and carriages.

I was hoping it would be a lot more "Traditional" magic based, I have to say. It still sounds like a cracking night though, I'm already looking forward to the reviews etc.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

Well we've got traditional magic, mind-reading and bizarre - so something for everyone.

My intro - well, I've described it as hypno/readongs/ghost walk, but really it's just a fun intro.

I would be more than happy to perform close up at some stage,

If you decide to have any close up/mentalism, table, mix n mingle, ect then let me know.

This is a great idea,

I run a magic caberet and burlesque night on the last sunday of every month and it is very well recieved there is no reason that this could not be a great night with the correct input.

Lee.

Okay, so we have the line-up complete which will be announced shortly.

I've been working on a name for the event, and have decided on "The Golden Era of Magic Ball". I had thought of using "The Crystal Ball" or "The Zombie Ball", but as this event really needs to sell tickets to survive I didn't want to miss out on any business by being too clever-clever. Any other ideas? I do think I want to use the word "Ball" in there though, coz that's what it is.

Also I'd like to send out publicity material to magic clubs and societies. If anyone here wouldl ike some info to give out at your local club, please drop me a PM with yor email and I'll send out an attachment to you later in the year.

Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a great, great night and if you ever do another one it would be a pleasure to perform, as it is i'll try and get up to watch this one. How and when for the ticket money??

Hi Richard. We'll have a webpage up and running soon through which tickets can be purchased. This will be on my old friends Fright Nights website. They have the staff and admin in place to deal with this kind of thing, so I'm pleased to have them onboard.

Ticket prices will be no more than £95. But will probably be not much less either. There'll probably be only about 50 tickets available, so this will be a really rather intimate soiree. Very classy, very friendly and very wonderful.

Paul, this sounds like a fun evening! :)

One detail about your name choice caught my attention: isn't a "ball" more a different type of event? Accoring to Oxford Dictionary: a ball is "a formal social gathering for DANCING". The question is, will your guests expect some form of dancing during the evening? Also using the word "magic" could be misunderstood, since its also often used for non-magic related events. Hence, a "golden era magic ball" could be read as some kind of ball room dancing event with a lot of glitter and magic glamour atmo.

Like Gene Simmons once said: choose a short and punchy name that boils everything down to the point.

Howabout something like "Magic Meal" or "Spellbound Supper"?

What kind of food are you actually serving?

Cheers,
Magnus
