Hey guys...

I'm going to a burlesque night soon dressed as a magician (think Lance Burtons Tux).

Gloves are a requirement so what are the best type of glove to be able to still manipulate cards with? I was thinking white silk (colour unimportant)....

Cor blimey guv. Best of luck there. I couldnt envisage using gloves, it'd be like starting over. Im interested to know how you manage and sorry this doesnt help you out, its more of an exclamation.

white cotton gloves. go to the chemist as they are sold for pople with excma.

How about fingerless gloves?

because of the casablanca style magician look that is required.

Surgical gloves, they don't slip and they look like white cotton gloves at a distance.

I wouldnt sugest these , because they dont look like white gloves. In fact most of them are transparent, and will give the hands an unnatural look.

these are usefull if you play a character and want the hands to look different, because you can apply make up to them

White surgical gloves are easy to find here. And ON STAGE, you won't really tell the difference. In close-up condition, you'll immediately tell.
Otherwise, thin white leather gloves are less slippy than coton ones.

UK Surgical Latex and non-Latex gloves tend to look cream rather than white and the skin colour showing through tints them as well. The thin cotton gloves from Boots are probably better, they're very low cost and look like 'dress gloves' from only a few feet away (find someone over 60 with a Boot's Advantage Card and they'll get 10% off the price for you!). Unless you're a latter day Cardini they still reduce finger dexterity quite a bit so perhaps the first routine of the evening would be to remove the gloves in a controlled and dignified way, finger by finger. Assuming you don't want to do the old joke whereby you ball them up, throw them on the floor and they bounce off stage!

I've tried working with gloves a few times and have found any complicated sleights very difficult. One thing that I have found that helps is to let a little dab of glue dry on each finger tip.

The best thing is to use tricks that don't need any fiddly sleights, self working cards, silks and ropes are all ok.

absolutly sure.The proffesional make up guys that i studdied under told me so.
You cant get white surgical gloves in this country, that look white.
