Hi TM
I've flicked about these boards every now and again usually looking for advice but never decided to register and start posting til now.

I think its about time I started getting involved in this magical community thing.

having read someone else's introduction I'm going to copy its format lol.

1). My name is Daniel (22) I got got into a showing off competition with my house mate early this year each of us trying to top the last ones trick, he eventually fell away from learning them I became obssessed.

2). I've been doing this for 7months, I've read, though not fully learnt, The royal road, Modern coin magic, and mark wilsons complete. After buying these I found that I am a much more visual learner and got R paul wilsons royal road dvds which i think are very good. I have also seen some Ellusionist stuff.

3) I live in manchester

4) Youtube helped increase my interest in magic before I was willing to spend any money on it. its also helped me work on sleights i couldnt get the grasp of through reading the above books. I have a feeling this isnt a popular stance.

5) I've focused mainly on cards up till now with a very little other magic i can do ( a few coin tricks but nothing spectacular.

6). I am in love with mallusionist.

7) i dont know whats acceptable in the magic world really, but it seems that piracy most definately is not. I've been a downloader of media off the internet since i was 11 but please dont hate me for it.

thats me
Daniel.

Welcome to TM, Daniel. I'm sure the piracy/downloading thing is quite common for the younger set growing up with the internet, as much as everyone may think it's a huge faux-pas (which I agree with).

Now that you know better, if you've stopped doing it then no hard feelings here. ;)

Yeah well i cant say ive stopped although i think im gonna avoid downloading magic videos/ ebooks.

although i am kinda against the fact with some things you can pay like 40£ for a gimmick you could have made yourself better with instructions

but i will bite my tongue and not go down the magical piracy route

from what i've been reading theres very few gimmicks that are essential
seems all you need is a TT a chop cup, a pk ring and some roughing fluid and you on your way.

Glad to hear that, at least. I'm sure many on here will agree that many magic products that are available are overpriced in their opinion. That's true in many fields. However, I think there's a difference between "refusing to buy" and "stealing." ;)

Also, thanks to Ebay and the multitude of online retailers eager to offer the aspiring magician a little extra in order to earn their business, things aren't nearly as expensive as you'd think if you're willing to do a small amount of digging. :)
