Blurb looks OK, but they don't seem to have much set up on the distribution end yet. (They say they're working on it.) They can't provide ISBNs or arrange for external distribution -- although if you obtain your own ISBN you can add it to the cover and make your own arrangements.

Registering as a publisher with the ISBN Agency and obtaining a run of 10 ISBNs costs £103.50.

I was going to add this yesterday but my internet connection flopped over and died without warning...

It just occurred to me that a problem with both Lulu and Blurb is that they're US-based, which adds a layer of complexity.

Authors Online is UK-based and has been around long enough to be considered respectable. (I've seen their ads in Writers' News for ages.) They're cheaper on some things (£25 for an ISBN) and more expensive on others (£20 per year to stay in print).

I know a couple of people who've used lulu to self-pubish from the uk, and they've had no problems whatsoever from what I know

Just what the world needs: Yet another e-book that's 90 per cent card tricks. (The other 10 per cent have been lifted from elsewhere and, believe it or not, NOBODY wants to see card tricks).

Farisborough comments on my post by saying: ". . .So that's a "no" from you then, Peter... "

It should be.

But, if you all INSIST on doing it, I'll be happy to contribute a routine (or whatever). But no -- repeat NO -- card tricks.

cheers,

Why don't we have chapters... a cards chapter... close up etc and even a chapter where we offer thoughts and opinions on good and bad thaumaturgy

I think it sounds like a great idea, I'll happily submit a trick or two for it.

I have a handful of original effects (mostly non-card  )I would be glad to put in. Perhaps the funds could go to the upkeep of TM?

Makes sense.
Perhaps at cost to contributors though.

Anyway, I'll see about picking this up in January if there's interest and no one has butted in
