I've got a CD of traditional carols (very traditional, even medieval in some cases) sung by various choirs. Can't beat that.

Although Weird Al Yankovic's "Christmas at Ground Zero" is good too.

There a few great albums out there, I usually listen to a home made Christmas compilation pieced together from various Indie Christmas albums - Traditional and original songs that are actually good songs, from the likes of Eels, Low, Bright Eyes etc.

But otherwise, I prefer older Christmas music, what would probably be described as folk. Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band's "Carols & Capers" is a favourite, and for very traditional, try Sneak's Noyse "Christmas Now is Drawing Near."

Oh, and Sufjan Stevens has some great Christmas albums. His version of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing and O Holy Night are fantastic.

I dont listen to Christmas music by choice, but I have been listening to Jeff Dunhams 'Dont Come Home for Christmas' CD. It does help if youve seen his DVDs and know the characters before you listen to it

Maybe some of you metalheads can help me here...

Today at work whilst discussing Christmas songs, it occured to me that I remembered hearing a metal Christmas song. Not a cover version but an original one.
I'm sure it was released on MySpace but I can't remember:
a) The name of the band
b) The name of the song
c) If it was an original band or one consisting of members from other bands
d) If this is real and I didn't just imagine a song, MySpace page and video :?

Anyone able to help with any of these?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

King Diamond-no presents for Christmas
Korn and most of the new metal bands did awful Christmas covers during there careers. Blind Guardian did silent night. Paul Dianno did a few covers. Twisted sister did a full cover album a few years back. Type O Negative-Red water. Trans Siberian orchestra have done several albums of Christmas themed music. On the whole it's all awful though and should be avoided.

This is about the peak of it.
