Ricky's Click: A Card Quickie

Postby Michael Kras » Jan 6th, '09, 03:37

Just a quick card routine using some sleights I've been playing with recently... Ricky Smith's Cherry Control and "The Click Change" by Dan and Dave Buck. I'd LOVE to hear your comments and thoughts. Thank you!!!

Nice.

Smooth and slick.

Decent patter too.

I didn't care for the patter but the change was good...

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Technically it seemed fine, I'm sure a laymen wouldn't spot anything. I wasn't too hot on the patter either, it was all very frantic, and it kinda felt like you were just reciting a script. Even if you're using the same line you use on every spectator, every time you do that trick, it should sound natural, like you happen to have thought it up - otherwise it just sounds kinda contrived. I appreciate that's difficult when you don't have anyone playing the volunteer, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Addendum: I only liked the patter after the card had been chosen.

The whole getting a non-existent person to pick a card is hard though, so I can cope with that being a bit painful!

Technically fine. Patter not so fine and as an effect it's not particularly strong. It hasn't got much depth but as a quick effect it's fine. "Ricky's Click Quicky?"

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

What was wrong with the patter? Considering I just winged it :P

A lot of the things you say (even when winging it apparently) sound like "lines". I can't think of a better way of putting it than that. Saying things like "You, yes YOU at home" isn't actually a very engaging thing to say, and if anything is a little patronising.
