The Effect PK Putty

From http://www.worldmagicshop.co.uk/pk-putty-p-4675.html

They say

PK Putty is an easy to use ferromagnetic wax for shimming coins, cards, bills, plastic silverware, business cards, just about anything!

This combo pack includes both sticky soft wax and hard anchor wax made ferromagnetic with iron additive. For use with general PK tricks, including PK ring applications. Use as supplied or mix soft and hard wax together for desired consistency.

* Shim items on the fly!
* Wax is very easy to control!
* Becomes magnetic temporarily!
* Convenient, pocket size containers!

Just a dab of wax on the back of a dollar bill, playing card, or coin will make it attractive to magnets. PK Putty is versatile, but it doesn't come with instructions. The tricks are up to you!

Contains about 15 grams of soft and hard PK Putty, combined. Heat sensitive. Do not microwave. Safe to touch. Use only as directed. PK Putty may stain some surfaces. Wax responsibly!

Cost £5.99

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

N/A. Depends on what you want to do, applying and handling the soft wax can be fiddly and take practice but that goes with anything I suppose.

Review

Well, I got this as an add on when I bought my Wizard PK Ring, DVD and Aquarius Cap In Bottle as a pack. What you get for £6 are two small tubs, one full of wax impregnated with iron filings, the other contains brittle, thin shards of what feels like set, dry, gray clay. Now, the soft wax, to me, has the most potential for shimming, can be molded into any small cavity (now, now!) in everyday objects (biro caps, paracetamol blister pack, work ID card holders, things to be penetrated into bottles/ cans) but remember the wax is a dark gray/silver colour and won't be invisible as is the case with magicians wax, but this can be used to your advantage as in the blister pack so it looks like a capsule. Can also be used in conjunction with the hard fragments as an anchor or bedding material (embed hard in soft and you'll find it less messy to apply). Fantastic with bottle caps, especially those that come with a plastic insert inside the top of the bottle allowing a thin space that can be filled.

On the down side, don't try to shim cards, bills, paper, napkins or other pale porous materials, it does stain and cannot peel off like standard wax, but there are so many other options open this doesn't matter that much. Secondly, not so much as a down side as added advice, buy at least two sets. My soft wax was practically all used up in experimentation although it can be reused this isn’t always practical depending on where you’ve shoved it.

MODS: If any of the above need to be edited as exposure, please feel free to cut or let me know and I’ll be more than willing to edit, Thanks.

Overall

8.5/10

Fantastic, so many possibilities, it doesn't come with routines but you don't expect it to, so many ways to use it, I've been playing with it for only a few days now and have needed to keep a notebook with me for all those ideas that develop and would be forgotten by the end of the day. Would be higher but for the fact that its a bit messy and fiddly to apply, more so as it warms up, and stains too.

This is my first proper full review, so go easy, and any advice for future reviews (and there will be more, I've been too quiet) will be gladly taken on board.

Thank you... I've been curious about this stuff for some time now. I guess I'll have to get some and play with it now.

i may have a use for it too. It could play a part in streamlining the thing i do with the paper clip. 8)

You know that's a clever idea. I'm all for you editing that great review though, as otherwise people will just knock up their own!
