Magic Carnival

Postby flashman » Jan 13th, '09, 15:59

About 15 years ago I worked on a CH 4 programme called 'The Magic Carnival', making magic props and games. It was supposed to be the next Crystal Maze - team challenges interspersed with magic tricks.... but it never made it past the pilot. It was great fun to work on though and the presenter was an american magician/comedian. I woke up in a sweat the other night as a thought hit me that it may in fact have been David Williamson!!! Now I can't for the life of me remember much about it, so I'm hoping someone else out there might have seen it and put my mind to rest about who the presenter was!?!? Anyone...? :?

If this had aired, i would have it on tape. And alas, i have to say i dont.

Wiliamson would of been around then and reasonably high profile, thanks to the magic comedy strip, best of magic, and stuff the white rabbit .

Doh... I was counting on you Mr Shrimpton!! You may very well be correct in saying in never aired... I just can't remember. Shame too, it was a big production for a pilot. Really nice sets... ala 'Dark's Carnival', and some good illusions including 'The Chinese Water Torture Cell'. I'd love to know where all the stuff ended up... (probably in a skip outside North Weald Studios... sigh!!)

Probably in the Masked Magician Shows - they're exposing the Milk Can Escape at some point...

I don't remember the pilot at all, so maybe it didn't air, but it sounds fascinating. Maybe Derren Brown could host it, and it would be a success second time round?

A guy called Paul Kieve apparently consulted on the show. Maybe he'd be able to help jog your memory. http://www.stageillusion.com/home/index.html
