Getting myself some gigs

Postby Dirty Davey » Jan 14th, '09, 09:05

I've done a few paid gigs now as well as a few freebie ones and was wondering what the best way to promote myself is.

I'm on the books of an agency but I'm not really getting much work from them, only had two gigs in the last 6 months so I need to get out there myself.

I've got a stand at a wedding fair in a couple of months time, which I'm hoping will point some work my way. How else can I get my name out there, what do other people find works well?

Most of mine have come through word of mouth. When I do a gig, I hand out as many business cards as possible, there's usually a couple of people who have a party or wedding comming or know someone who has so as long as you impress them, there's a good chance of finding someone who's interested in hiring a magician.

Another thing that I've just started to do it to put together a leaflet and just send that out to any hotels and conference centres near to you. I've worked at a couple and they've always said that they'd like a regular magician on their books.
