Marking decks (not marked decks)

Postby TheStoner » Jan 14th, '09, 20:17

I'd be interested to know how people distinguish their various decks. I've got loads around the house and I'm always going "is this the stripper or the one-way force or the rising, etc etc". Maybe I should be a bit more organised!

I was going to put little stickers on the packs to mark them so I can tell which is which, but then that screws up deck switches and looks a bit suspicious generally. Any useful advice from the more experience hands? Also when you're out performing do you have a standard approach to where they are kept (always put stripper in left pocket, rising in right pocket, Extractor (TM) in inside pocket, etc)?

I keep meaning to print out a load of paper strips and then loop them round the cases. Most of my trick decks came with similar wraparounds but I have some that I made up myself, that could do with labelling.

I keep an ID in my inside right pocket, along with either a Perfection deck or one set up for Strange Travellers, and an ordinary deck in the left pocket.

Since the ID is a quick, ' show us a trick ', kind of effect but very hard hitting when done properly, i keep it most handy. And thanks to Paul Brook, i now have a very good take on the whole sordid affair.

Have you had many direct hits with that? My guilt got in the way, so naturally I first have to perfect my ungimmicked ID before I get into it.

I find this frequently-occuring 'guilt' thing disturbing :)

Seconded. I feel like I'm a horrible person because I'm not suffering from guilt!!! Must have been that damn Catholic upbringing, with that you get dealt enough guilt to last you a life time!!!!!!

Yes i bloomin well have. But i've devised a devious piece of patter i deliver beforehand that steers them in the right direction ( hopefully ). I've not yet set up my ID in the way that Mr Brook suggested, i dont find it difficult to work out so i havent bothered. I am keen on making the deck look more random though so maybe i'll give it a go.

I write on the box.

in pencil, in the white boarder or inside the flap.
Indeed, ive bought decks that have had this done at point of manufacture.

Yup, just write on the box. This works 90% of the time, but I will admit to having a few old decks with strange abbreviations on the flap that I have absolutely no idea what they mean!! Too clever for my own good....

I usually just have different coloured elastic bands around the various decks when they're at home.
