Demons ITV1

A week or so ago I defended the new saturday night ITV offering "Demons". I said it showed promise. Sadly I now have to change my mind. This programme is awful. And why? Let me count the ways:

1. The older guy with the awful fake American accent. What, there aren't any real American actors to play the role? And why does he need to be American anyway?
2. The fake blind woman. What, there aren't any real blind actresses around? Sometimes this woman is blind, can't see a thing, next minute she's looking around and chatting eye to eye like a good 'un.
3. The hero. Talk about sub-Luke Skywalker Buffy chosen one. And why use Van Helsing as his surname? Just how lazy can a script writer get? And what a surprise - he's a reluctant hero. "But I don't wanna be a hero. I just wanna hang around and eat pizza with my mates!"
4. The hero's mum. "Oh you off out again love? Where are you going? Not telling eh? Just like your dad! Oh well, off you go!"
5. Last Saturday's storyline. Little girl disappears. Family distraught. No police liason officer in the house with them while the press photographers are assembled outside? Family allowed to sneak out of the back door and jump into a car with a bunch of people they've never seen before? And then these strangers allowed into the family's house and one of them allowed to talk with the missing girl's younger sister alone?

Bah. What a pile of c*** (not the best).

I only saw the pilot, but thought that it was a very lazy imitation of Buffy (did they really have to call the 'Watcher' character Rupert?).

Why is it that when media businessmen decide to copy a 'winning formula', they forget all about the most important off-screen ingredients, such as first-class writers?...

I just hate it when they try to shoe horn in classic character names like Van Helsing and Mina Harker for no good reason other than the kiddies have probably seen that terrible Hugh Jackman movie.... Oh, and for a blind girl she's very good at doing her makeup... Poor old Phil Glennister deserves better!!

Shows like Buffy and Angel would never get commissioned over here.... the tv execs would keep dumbing them down until they turned into.... Demons...!! :(

It's a real shame, as I remember shows like The Professionals being thoroughly uncompromising. Nobody has the guts to do something that visceral these days without turning it into some kind of worthy social commentary. I don't want to be preached to, but I love a great rollercoaster ride. :)

Meh, I didn't get on with it.
I feel like if I watched an episode of Buffy followed by an Episode of The Might Boosh I'd end up with the same over all effect just 10 times better.

The first one was dire, but figured it was just to introduce the characters so gave the second a chance as it seems to be getting good guest actors on. Still awful. I don't think they could manage to make more plot holes if they were trying. The acting is terrible. The effects are hit and miss. I think the worst part is the overuse of the word "smite".

The other half has series linked it and we tend to watch it when there's nothing else to do (like when there's no more cocktail sticks to poke in your eyes instead), it is quite woeful but at the same time I'm willing it to get good and justify my continued viewing. That Being Human was alright though.

I'm willing to give anything that revolves around vampires a go and although it is umm... *puts truth on body rack and cranks*... not great, I will be waiting a few more episodes for some sort of main plotline to kick in before I totally stomp it.

Do americans have a noticeable accent. I mean, we have a couple who used to live in England that come into my store and they have a noticable accent, is it like that when americans come to your countries.
