hi, so first things first, I am not a magician, I do have a huge intrest in magic. Why am I not a magician, I have tried, but time, and my own cumbersome ability mean I can pull off little more then the most basic of card tricks. I am here for my own education and to find people I can hopefully discuss techniques with, I refuse to explain to my friends how x trick was performed, I will not give away the secrets I work so hard to try and uncover, so it would be great for me to be able to say, I think this trick may have been performed by this method or by using this bit of equipment, of maybe even bounce around ideas for an act (While I cant perform, it doesnt stop me imagning the perfect trick, and then trying to figure out the best way to do it. I realise there are many here who will be unwilling to get into such a conversation with a spectator, but you never know.

Anyway looking forward to chatting,

Richard

Welcome to TM.

It's good that you respect the rules and not discuss methods on public forums, but despite that, people here may be opposed to your attitude towards magic. Honestly, most people here don't discuss methods of other performers as much as they refer to books and dvds- which I would imagine goes against what you want.

If you honestly love magic and mentalism, you almost owe it to yourself to perform. If sleight of hand isn't natural to you, find an area that is. Find your strengths and use them to perform to the best of your abilities.

The guy in my avatar (not me, I'm a teenage Japanese kid) is David Abbott. He couldn't palm or manipulate cards, but his analysis of superior methods and deceptive structure allowed him to design routines and acts that fooled the best magicians of his time. Huge names in magic visited him in Omaha to trade their prized secrets for his. He played his strengths and got far.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Hiya and welcome to TM :D

Have you look at areas of magic other than cards? Ropes and sponges might be worth looking into. They're both fairly easy to manipulate but can get some brilliant reactions. My sponge bunnies routine is very simple to perform but always goes down really well.
