ring from bolt

Postby yddraig » Jan 14th, '09, 10:54

Hi, I need some advice.

I'm working on a routine for a friends upcoming party, part of the routine will involve a ring (one person in the party recently engaged). I'm hoping to run it as - ring on bolt (seen one on free post magic http://www.freepostmagic.co.uk/epages/e ... oducts/c10 ), bolt into nice wooden box, box moved into middle of table, ring has jumped off bolt and onto finger of model/mannequin hand in box (may even try to include element from 'Frozen' to add atmosphere, may play nice late on into the evening). Now the question I have is two fold, has anyone had experience with the ring off bolt gimmicks and if so, how examinable are they by the public? Are some better than others? How quick can this be accomplished? Also on the site I've seen a ring to brass box prop, not having looked into it much, is it a one way system or can the ring be put into the box by the public and then removed quickly to be slipped onto finger in box (a la ring off bolt), if so, I think it may look better than the bolt and I'll get more millage out of the prop in the future.... ?

So, any suggestions or advice very welcome. If I can get it to run smooth and look good, it should slot in near to the end.

there are some nice ring and string effects on the World's Greatest Finger Ring Magic DVD. Might be worth a look if you're wanting to do this sort of thing. Also the Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks has a few in that would be worth a look.

Fantastic, couldn't find it when I searched for it  Ah well, may have to reboot the computer! From that link, I've been hit with the spending bug and ordered the ring off bolt and the Marvelous Brass Box (hope the latter will take the heat off the former after the ring has gone). They're cheaper than free post magic too. Still tempted to change my mind and go for Ring Escape, but it's almost 3 times the price!

Not fair, now you've made me look at a something I've never looked at and didn't have any interest in, 'till now. World's Greatest Finger Ring Magic DVD looks like a gold mine of a dvd, is it as good as it sounds? Looked at the preview of The Ring Thing, and all it looked like was false transfers (I'm probably wrong because a lot of people swear by it) but World's Greatest Finger Ring Magic DVD reads fantastic and having so many contributors gives so many differing angles and performance styles.... HELP ME! Need talking out of spending more, already clicked on ADD TO CART for Abyss.... VAT FREE Deal .. Free postage too...... ARGGGHHHH.

You need to contact Magicians Anonymous. In an emergency you phone up and someone comes round to get roaring drunk with you....

Good god man, it's ten thirty in the morning!

At least have the decency and grit to wait until eleven like the rest of us...

It's times like these that hip flasks were invented for.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

Yup it's well worth buying, there's some brilliant ideas on there. I use Jay Sankey's ring to matchbox inside card case idea for all sorts of things.
