Blind luck!

Postby TheStoner » Jan 18th, '09, 21:44

At Friday's REPLICANT gig in St Albans I did a few tricks for punters inbetween us rocking out on stage. It went pretty well, although the pub was so loud it was sometimes hard to get instructions over ("I said CUT THE DECK", etc).

At one table there were three young ladies and I did a quick trick with one of them where they take a card face down (genuine choice - no force) and then I riffle through the deck in half a second, claiming to be able to "speed read the cards" and tell them which card they've taken. They turn over their card and it's the one I said.

She had chosen the Ace of Hearts which was a nice intro to a bit of cheeky banter, etc. Then I did the same trick to the second lady at the table. Completely free choice - she also picked the Ace of Hearts! They were amazed (so was I!). Then the third lady insisted on having a go and, I don't know who was more amazed them or me, but she picked the Ace of Hearts as well! They were stunned and very very impressed. Of course I was happy to take the credit for this lucky turn of fate.

Have you had any incidents when pure luck has turned your magic from good to amazing?

This is more of a tale where something that didn't happen made my magic amazing.

I used to do stuff with E's scorpion uv kit (which gets very good reactions, btw). Part of the kit is a stamp with a card on. Anywho, a couple of months last summer I was doing some table work when a piped up that she'd seen me the previous year and related my uv routine, but in her mind the glowing mark on her arm wasn't her card but the symbol for her star sign!

Hmmm, maybe I'll have to dig it out again. Having said that, making glowing things appear doesn't really fit with my performing persona these days.

love

:D Great story. The more you perform in public, the more these things will happen. The important thing is not to freeze or admit that you have no idea how it happened, but to calmly give the impression that yes, you are one weird mo-fo who can make these things happen.
