The Session Convention, Gloucester (Day 1 rave)

Postby Charles Calthrop » Jan 18th, '09, 09:58

Well, day one was great fun. Some great magic, fun ideas and lots of interesting, knowledgable and friendly people to talk to. All very friendly and informal and people just sessioning all over the place. And beer. It's a great convention - if you're not here then why not?

Big thanks to Andi Gladwin and Rob James (who have been madly stressed by a last minute emergency and still seem to be loving it all - more on that later).

Just heading off for day two. Jon Allen is first up and I had a sneak preview of his lecture talking to him in the bar last night. He's got some crazy ideas. So crazy...they might just work...

Heh. I was talking to the replacement last night at a wedding, and he had to get a 9.15 flight this morning down to the Session...

Shame I can't be there.

Take care, Ian

Charles Calthrop (yes, I get the Day of the Jackal reference) writes, in part: ". . . if you're not here then why not?"

Because I'm freezing my butt off here in bloody Canada!

cheers,

Sorry Peter. Not accepting any excuses since there were plenty of Canadians there.

The 'replacement' Ian mentioned was Gordon Bruce who stepped in at the last minute when David Acer experienced immigration difficulties ('What's the reason for your visit, Mr Acer?' 'Oh, I'm here to do a bit of work'. BZZZZZZZZT! Oh no you're not, Curly!). Mr Bruce gave a very entertaining talk and demonstration. He told us he'd tried to get Roy Walton to join him, but he couldn't be persuaded. If only...

Like I said, more later. I will say this now though...
The gala: high points and low points, but a million thanks to Jon Archer for saving the day at a point when - frankly - things were tanking due to an (IMO) excruciatingly misjudged act.
Overall the Session was brilliant (again) and I'll be booking next years ticket as soon as it's available.

Would that be Piff the Magic Dragon?! And John Archer... dammit, why didn't I go?!

Oh yeah - girlfriend... anniversary... but then, it sounds like it might have been worth the rest of the year in the doghouse :P

Saw Piff at the Ipswich day last October - laid back, sardonic, unique and extremely entertaining. As Simon commented at the time, just think Jack Dee in a dragon suit :D !
