Postby prof.Wonderfool » Nov 12th, '04, 02:19

One had said to me that the G.Kurt's chair Routine was terrrrrrrrific!
Who can describe to me what happens?
I saw him in Paris three month ago, but I on't remember a chair routine... :?: :?:

I do believe your talking about Electric Chair Routine, its a great trick.

A wooden looking normal fold away chair can give out shocks but not enough to hurt

I don't know too much about them but they cost around £20 so good deal for money

If you dont want to fork out money for it, there is a way to do it without gimmicks, take Paul Daniels routine for example, no gaffs, but in magic, not everything is as it seems!

Paul Daniels routine

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » Dec 7th, '04, 14:42

I saw Paul do this on his 'An evening with tour' a couple of years ago. It was brilliant, and the guests involved were brilliant too. One of them, a friend of a family member, gave away the secrets at a later date, which really annoyed me on two levels; firstly because he shouldn't have done that - he should have respected Pauls wishes, and secondly, because it ruined all my theories of how it was done!

But that's what happens in magic when the public find out - it ruins the whole effect. I guess fellow magicians can 'appreciate' the technique behind it, but I personally still feel a bit let down. When I order a new card deck / trick, occasionaly I have no idea how it's done, and spend the days waiting for my deck to arrive pondering the mechanics. When I read the instructions, I always tend to feel a little saddened, as the 'magic' has gone. (Hope that doesn't sound daft!!)

Does anyone else feel this way at all? Has anyone seen Paul perform this trick?

Yup - with some effects knowing the secret is a bit of a let down but the true magic isn't in the props or the method - it's in the presentation and that will be as individual as each of us can be. Sometimes rubbish, sometimes great but always individual. (I'm in a very philosophical mood today!)

Only four weeks ago I watched him do it in cabaret and it was great. Regardless of the method (which I have more than an inkling about) the point is that we were entertained and not just with Magic. If your favourite singer gets on stage and sings one of their classic hits, it doesn't matter that you know the song and that you know which line follows which - you still enjoy it. Probably a bit simplistic but that's me - simple!
