Patrick McGoohan will no longer be pushed, pulled, stamped, filed, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

I'd say "tragic" but 80 is a fair innings, sounds like he was fairly peaceful and happy.

He was not a number, he was a free man...

:(

"He has revolted. Resisted. Fought. Held fast. Maintained. Destroyed resistance. Overcome coercion. The right to be a person, someone or individual. We applaud his private war, and concede that despite materialistic efforts, he has survived intact and secure!
...
All that remains is . . . recognition of a man." (Fall Out)

I can't really express quite how much The Prisoner means to me :)

"Who is number one?
You are, number six"

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

Watched A, B & C today. Any show where the main character can win by getting two real people to look at a real door that he's just walked through in a dream has got to be worth something.

I'm a Hammer into Anvil man myself, but we need to spread the love around.

Hammer into Anvil is amazing, I'm a big fan of Schizoid Man and Free for All (especially the journalists). A,B and C is wonderful. Damn. Chimes of Big Ben as well.

Then there are the original seven Patrick pitched:

Arrival
Dance of the Dead
Free for All
Checkmate
Chimes of Big Ben
Once upon a time
Fall Out

All 17 episodes of the original series are on line at http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner/ it's the same organisation who are about to release the new interpretation. Sad that Pat won't be around when it's aired, be seeing you....

I was Number 21 in Mensa's Prisoner SIG (Special Interest Group) for a while. Still have my badge.

Colin used to work as a barman in a pub frequented by McGoohan. He remembers him as a VERY quiet person, generally wearing a scruffy mac, who sat on his own, drank steadily, and didn't like to be disturbed.

Be Seeing You Number 6.

So much for the rumors of him doing the 'new' Prisoners series. By hook or by crook he will be missed!
