Hopefully I'm not stepping out of line here, but you'll notice that Derren has the cards on a hard table-top and puts a big bend in them to make them easier to pick up. You wouldn't want to do this with your Decisions cards. Also, if you know what Decisions cards look like you can plainly see that Derren is not using them.

Also though, I don't think Derren has ever performed an effect that relied on 'psychology' as its primary method.

I'm going to order some Decisions cards on pay day so hopefully once I've received them and played around them I'll be able to understand DB's take on it a bit more.

Fully agree with you though, a primarily psychological method would be far too unreliable to be worthwhile although in he did used to perform some 'I know what card your thinking of' routines heavily based on psychological forces/influences which are fairly well documented now.

Oh yes, you're right. They were on the DPB.

Don't think I've seen him do anything like that on telly or stage though.

I'll have to watch the Merchant clip more closely before thinking of alternative methods. (no doubt camera angles won't make it easy!)

Charles - naturally I wouldn't ask you to describe how DB does his version, all I ask is do you know how it is done?

I've got another idea but as i said I'll have to watch the clip again, perhaps a similar theme to another clip on YT with 3 psychology students, I think the clip is called Predictable Behaviour.

Well, after 18 months of procrastination, I finally got this today and I'm very impressed. The gimmick is divine and exceptionally well-made (typical Rob Bromley quality). I'm still reading the booklet that comes with it (which is not as well written as it could be, but it does the job) and I love the possibilities that this gaff opens up. Cracking stuff.

If I'm honest, it was only after watching Derren's Yes/No effect with Stephen Merchant that I was reminded of Decisions. I'm pretty sure he doesn't use the Decisions gimmick but I could be wrong.

Some people are just a little heavy-handed. The gimmick is not overly fragile but it does need to be handled with care. If you're a bit girly, like me, you won't have any problems with it.

I love the Ran Pink effect and Looch's routine is inspired.

to be honest my cards get stuck once in a while and im pretty sure its due to maybe sweat from my hands or just plain dust..... this is where i made the mistake on my first set of cards - the gimmick got stuck and thought it was broken , but then made it worse in trying to fix the problem, what was left was ripped up card pieces everywhere.and that was after one week of purchase.

so if you have probs like that,id say just leave them alone for a bit, always works for me now i have bought some more

I have actually neglected this in recent months but got this out last night, and my word... the possibilities and spectator interaction you get with this is SO fun.... I was using the Hit Miss Hit Hit Hit routine, but think the more direct Derren Brown / Steve Merchant take is the best.

I usually explain that as I am so indecisive I use these cards to make decisions for me, for example: "Should I get drunk tonight?" I then ask the spec to ask it a question, and honestly, whilst I am spoken for, the amount of people who give a knowing wink and ask a particularly raucous and racy question is often staggering.

The Truth or Lie idea opens up pleasant tangents too. I have just bought 357 by TM's very own Tom Lauten's and this theme ties in well. I think concluding the "something written down on cards" type effect with 357 could create a well rounded routine.
