Dear fellow conjurers,

I'm currently putting together a food and drink based close-up show and I am looking for a method to load a drink into a small cup which previously has been shown to be empty... namely: I want to get a hot portion of espresso (about 2 cl) in to a small espresso cup.

Can you direct me to any commercially available methods to achieve that effect?

there are quite a few methods for producing and vanishing a small amount of liquid available.

Your problem is that you want it hot.

could you insulate a film canister,and keep it in your pocket untill you need it?
The lid should be tight enough to hold the liquid inside.

Yep, the espresso should be hot - which f.ex. could also be achieved by just filling up a pre-heated cup with cold coffee (I'm thinking of those really thick-walled Italian espresso cups).

I also want to give to spectator the chance to "order" the espresso from me with or without milk and sugar

Not that this may be of much help...but thinking out loud, my first reaction - due to the small volume you are after - would be to use a couple of syringes on p-lls and you can simply figure on some handling from there...just a thought, not sure how appropriate or not.

Magnus - you can buy self-heating shots of espresso. They're pretty chunky though, the whole bottom portion is filled with (presumably) chemicals for an exothermic reaction, but it's supposed to get the espresso steaming hot.

You could hang that on the inside of your jacket - the only problem would then be piercing/removing the lid and decanting the contents without scalding yourself!

Re. milk and sugar - a TT or a twist of flesh coloured paper with some sugar and/or milk powder should do fine, but I'd save yourself the effort with the milk - what sort of idiot puts milk in an espresso?!
