smart casual

Postby danata » Jan 5th, '09, 17:44

Hi this is Mike again, I'm not actually one of the organisers, but allow me to explain:

SURELY we all know what "Smart Casual" means? Jeans & T shirts are absoultuely fine, but "Moth eaten Jeans, with your *rse hanging out, would not be!
I'm sure that much is obvious. This should not need to be explained!!!!

The dress code has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the organisers of the convention, it's THE OWNER of Lakeside, Bob Potter, & why not? it is his club.

Trainers are banned, for whatever reason, again that's Bob Potter's decision, it's his beloved Nightclub.

I have spent hours & hours on this & other forums answering as many questions as I can. But truthfully many of these type questions should be fired at Lakeside itself. I've answered questions about the Hotel, the venue, the dress code etc etc. Lakeside has a phone number, with a switchboard, & can be contacted quite easily by email or phone. Lakeside details are on the Convention website................

Collin who IS an organiser also has a phone number which is FREE it is 0800 118 26 88

His Mum is desperately ill at the moment, which is why I am trying to help as much as I can, because he cannot be glued to the computer, as much as I am.

All the best!

Mike

Thanks Mike - I know plenty of people who would disagree with you and state that Jeans & T-Shirts are deifinitley NOT smart casual so thanks for the clarification.

Speaking as an ex-Trainer and legal beagle, something which you may think is obvious may not be to others, everything needs to be explained and defined clearly. To 'assume' is to make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'

I'd agree,

Smart casual to me might mean jeans but certainly doesn't mean t-shirt unless its completely plain.

It's one of the hardest dress codes to get right I would say as everyone looks at it differently.

I'd probably turn up in smartish trousers (not jeans) and an uncollard shirt or jumper.

Southern England Magic Convention

Postby Collin Richardson » Jan 7th, '09, 21:53

To all members who have purchased tickets to the Southern England Magic Convention we have noticed that many have stated that they would like to meet at the convention, and in view of this, we have decided to organise the following:

Any member of Talk Magic/ Magic Bunny can if they wish, send their user name and the four digit number on the front of their convention ticket to collins.magic@virgin.net from this information you will receive by email, a special lapel label noting that you are a member of the forum, with your user name. These labels can then be printed out to wear at the convention. These will act as a pass for a meeting area that we are currently setting up at the Lakeside Complex for the members of the two forums.

All details of the meeting area and arrangements for Forum members will be put on the forums one week prior to the convention.

Only forum members who have the necessary printed label, & serial number matched to the computer system will be allowed in this area.

I personally look forward to meeting you all.

On behalf of myself (Collin Richardson) & Geoff Pescud (convention organisers).

Regards,
Collin

Southern England Magic Convention

Postby danata » Jan 14th, '09, 14:00

Hi there this is Mike Danata, we are all getting very excited now regarding the Southern England Magic Convention!

One thing that has cropped up over the last few days, is that a number of people that INTEND to come, but have not yet got their tickets. There is no problem with that, but I STRONGLY advise that you at least RESERVE the tickets, this is more to do with the tabled seating plan for the Gala Show. Each ticket has a number on it (ticket number) on the back of the ticket there is a Table Number, this will be your allocated table. The organising of the tables is similar to the organising of the seats in a theatre, with one BIG difference, a theatre seat is numbered, & it's only for ONE person. The tabled seating at Lakeside in the cabaret room, may hold more than one party of people (Some tables are for 10's & 12's for instance!) So ADVANCE reservations are encouraged to get the room planned, well in advance. This is particularly important if you want to sit next to friends etc.

Best Wishes

Mike Danata

It seems such a long time ago, when this Convention was first announced (Last March) unbelievable that so much time has gone by, & it is nearly upon us, only a few days to go!!!

I hope to see you there.

All good wishes

Mike
