Clutch

Postby ridl3r » Aug 13th, '08, 19:19

Info:Clutch is featured in Oz Pearlman's off-broadway show, The Unseen. While Clutch is simple to perform and can be done any time with a borrowed deck, it is presented here with the professional performer in mind. This is a card routine that bridges the gap between close-up and stage as it plays for the entire audience. We hope you'll add Clutch to your show.

The deck is borrowed. Fair.

The spectator shuffles, picks a card, and returns it to the deck. Fair.

The cards are put in the card box. Fair.

The box is closed. Fair.

The spectator puts the deck in his/her own pocket. Fair.

The spectator confirms there's nothing else in his/her pocket... just a deck inside a CLOSED box! Fair.

You show your hands COMPLETELY empty. You show them slowly and from all angles. Your sleeves are rolled up. Fair. Fair. Fair.

You explain exactly what you're gonna do. This is as fair as it gets!

You reach into the spectator's pocket and INSTANTLY pull out the chosen card. Your hand darts in at lightning speed and BOOM, a card appears at your finger tips. This happens in the blink of an eye... literally less than a second!

You ask the spectator to check the box of cards. The box is still closed!

Top 5 reasons we love Clutch:

1. It's extremely fooling--laypeople don't have a chance!
2. It's dramatic--you set up an impossible challenge for yourself.
3. It's visual--you instantly pluck the card from your spectator's pocket.
4. It plays huge in multiple environments--close-up, street, stand-up, and stage.
5. It can be done with a borrowed deck without ANY preparation. Perform clutch anytime, anywhere... everytime, everywhere!

it's pretty cool, the chances of success is about 80%.

sometimes the smart audience can find out though, cos two of the moves u did, is kind risky. especially when u handed back to them to shuffle again.

In this case, I would say, if you have money, buy extractor, haha
I think extractor is one of the best of the best trick i bought last year.

I disagree, I have preformed clutch a couple of hundred times at this stage and never had it fail. If you are failing 1/5 times you really really need to look at your handling of this effect again before you show it to anyone else. If you want PM me and let me know what your hangups with the effect are and I will try and talk you through them.

agreed - it doesn't and shouldn't fail...

you can an interesting story to it..or at least something engaging to keep the focus on you, rather than what needs to be done..

i've been telling them the tale of how gamblers used to arrange a game of cards, and rather than be searched and found out with spare or marked cards on them..they'd put-pocket them onto people who were going to the game and worked at the bar...

then they'd just pick-pocket them later to get them back...

so you go through the effect, and say "as strange as this sounds, would you like a demonstration of how gamblers did this? And would you like to give me a number between 1 and 52...where do you think your card is in deck in your pocket right now?"

go into their pocket and do what you have to do - before you reveal, say "ah..well done, you were only one card out..." then turn over their card...
