Hello from Glasgow...

Postby DonkeySkin » Jan 29th, '09, 23:19

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would introduce myself properly. My name is Charlotte and I'm from glasgow. I am mostly interested in learning card magic, although I admire all kinds of magic. I got into card magic through my facination with the Tarot and someone got the wrong end of the stick and bought me the RRTCM, which I loved and still grapple with!
I see that I am not alone in my interest in tarot here and wonder if anyone else works with Jodorowsky's method?

I am really interested to find out more about magic especially more about the history and develpment of card magic, you know about the magicians who first started to develop the effects and their stories as some seem like really fascinating characters.

I haven't joined an online forum before so I'm new to this as well but I'll do my best to try and make useful contributions when I can, if you all are able to tolerate my ignorance!

Charlotte.

If we don't mandrake will beat us.

Welcome DonkeySkin I'm actually the other way round, I started with Card magic and have now devolved an interest in the Tarrot (restored after a nasty incident nine years ago when I amateurishly predicted my younger brothers death in ten years)

I so far am without any real understanding of Tarot (other than the basic principle behind it.) I would like to here more about Jodorowsky's method.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Jean: I don't know if you know of Jodorowsky's work as a film maker but he is also a master of the Tarot and worked with Philippe Camoin to restore the earliest Tarot known. He wrote a massive book on the tarot but unfortunately it is only available in French and Spanish. I have the French version and am working my way through it but it takes some time with my schoolgirl french!

Here is a clip from youtube which will give you a taste of his work:

Hiya Charlotte, welcome to TM :D

I've been reading the tarot for about the last 10 years but don't do as much now as I used to do.

Hi Charlotte;

Welcome to TM.

would you mind sharing the reference of your book in French? It would be nice for me to read something on the subject in my own language, esp. if recommended from someone here.

What's the approach of the book, esoteric / shut eye, or more performance / cold reading style?

Let me know if you need help with translation of some sentences you're unsure of :)
