Wizard Certification Program

Postby Captain Fantastic » Dec 15th, '04, 12:14

There is a mini series currently running on The Sci-Fi Channel in the states entitled 'The Legend of Earthsea' based on books by some famous writer whose name escapes me at the moment but she's supposed to be pretty good!! Anyhow, back to the plot, if you go onto the website which is http://earthsea.scifi.com/ and click on Wizard Certification Program, there is a host of wondrous things to read, watch and participate in. Plus the fact that when you have done it all, you get a nice certificate to print out as well!!

Have fun!!

Not so much a trilogy any more. There are a further two books in the series:

A Wizard of Earthsea
The Tombs of Atuan
The Farthest Shore
Tehanu
The Farthest Shore

Oh and a word to the wise - if you like Harry Potter there is no guarantee you will like the Earthsea novels. Magic and wizards are the only common factors. Other than that its like comparing a bus with a mini - both are automobiles but there the similarities end.

Le Guin is an interesting author in that her personal beliefs have changed over the years and accordingly so has her writing. If you like fantasy novels its almost obligatory to read at least the first 3 books in the series in the same way as it is obligatory to read The Lord of the Rings! The Earthsea novels really are a corner stone in the genre.

Nice to know a show has finally emerged, thanks for the heads up. It will be interesting to see it. Lets hope they haven't screwed up some classic litrature like that recent Will Smith movie...grrrrr....okay don't get me started....
