Elastic IT

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere, but I didn't find it in the topics.
I've been playing about with IT for a while, using the LeClair animator technique.
The effect is great and I've found the normal stripped threads are pretty good under lighting, but I'm getting a bit frustrated with breakage (especially if I set myself up a while in advance, there is always something that snaps the thread before I get to use it). There are also some effects I'd like to try out using a 6 foot length which I'm sure will just annoy the hell out of me before I even get started.
I saw elastic thread on a few sites advertised at double the strength and without the need to strip, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried it out. Is it a marked improvement or too visible or too stretchy for most uses?

Hey Maria,
I'd say it depends on what you're planning on using the elastic IT for. I used to use regular thread but I always snapped it as well, do I bought a dispenser of mesika elastics (IET).
Whilst it is more visible than regular IT, it's much stronger, strechier obviously, and I think easier to use because you don't need to strip it from a bunch of other fibres.
I would DEFINITELY recommend "S.T.El.Th" from NUMS (http://www.nothingupmysleeve.com) as you get a brilliant system to tie your own loops (great little devices for many effects) and you get a great IET called "Silk Worm" which is better in my opinion than Mesika's thread as it's a hell of a lot stronger!
Unfortunately I tangled up my silkworm spool and I'd only used it for a few loops, but now I can't use any more!
So yeah, invest in that system as it saves you from wasting hundreds of pounds on loops manufactured using mesika's weaker loops!

Thanks very much for that. It's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
So far I've only been using IT for floating notes and some matchbox effects, but have been reading some really nice cigarette floats that need a really long length and I just know I'd get really frustrated with it.
