Hello

Any east coast Dissentful Colonials about?

I am going on my jolly hols in April to New York for a few days then driving to Massachusetts.

So Far me and the missis have marked 2 full days for Boston, 1 for Plymouth, Salam, cape cod.

What else can be recommended to do?

We were going to drive up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire but found out that April was a bad time to go (muddy and loads of black flies) so anywhere in the NEw England area really.
I have 3 days to fill and must be with 8 hours driving distance from Boston or New York (north of).

Ideas? Not magic related btw (the missis would kill me)

Cheers Bar (Bull & Finch) in Boston is worth a visit, you must do the Boston Tea Party thing in the harbour but don't own up to being British unless you want the gentle mickey taken out of you! Cape Cod has super duper fish and chip places, well worth trying.

Two days isn't enough to do Boston! There are some great comedy clubs worth visiting in the evening. The John Hancock tower is great, but don't know if you can still go to the top since 9/11. Excellent aquarium.

Drive north out of Boston on over the Tobin bridge on Route 128, take the I95 (motorway) and take a good look at New Hampshire and Maine.

how about a grand tour of strip-joints? that would be interesting, you'd get to meet the locals, and I'm sure it would impress your good lady I'm sure...

I live just outside of Boston, and have lived in Springfield most of my life. If you are a Basketball Fan, I strongly suggest you visit the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield. The place is very cool, lots of Basketball History, trivia, games, etc. Plus, Springfield MA is the true home of the Simpsons

Then of course, you've got the Boston Museum and Aquarium and Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox.

Only the outside would be familiar, inside it's nothing like the TV show but upstairs is/was a huge souvenir shop! The beer's good though....

A couple of hours outside of Boston in the Berkshires is a museum call MASSMoCA and it's the Mass. Museum of Contemporary Art. I don't know if they've changed it since August but it's extremely cool. I don't know if you'll be on that side of town or not though...

We really did want to head up to Maine but thought it'd be too far for the 3 day gap we have (by my calculations).
New Hampshire sounds great as we really wanted to spend some of the time in the great outdoors doing some nice walks but have read that April time sucks for that sort of activity (snow melt creating muddy terrain and Black flies).
Basketball unfortunately isnt our bag and although art galleries are we feel that we want to visit places that are unique to the places we visit. Although the artworks themselves will be, the experience overall is replicable elsewhere.
So...

where in New Hampshire? Or where in Rhode Island or MA

Oh it's not an art exhibit...or at least not that much of an art exhibit. Last time I went there were things like Los Angeles California carved out of marble and clear containers containing plants and stuff and you stick your head inside (in the thread "lemme see your mugs" that's my picture inside one of those) There was also a gigantic dark room full of bean bag chairs and movie projectors which scrolled across the entire room depicting poetry and political writings. It's very cool and unique. Just clearing up that it's not art....

I'm less than 90 minutes driving time (west) from Boston (Northampton, MA) home of wayward Lesbians, militant feminists and other old hippies...

The Boston Area has a Monday Night Magic Lounge in Cambridge in a Chinese establishment of all things, straight across from Harvard campus. It's a great place to meet some of the east coast movers and shakers of magic (if you can survive the four stories of stair climbing )

Not far from that area you have (of course) Plymouth... that little spot you all tossed the early Pilgrims off at. Just north and west is Salem, land of the witches! While in the Salem area I would suggest you try to catch "Le Grand David" one of the more unique and historic Magic Productions in late 20th century history. Ironically, it is a recreation of how magic was done in the late 19th century. The historic value of this show also centers on the fact that it's 80ish year old star isn't going to be around much longer e.g. you'll earn some bragging rights of seeing him in his glory.

On my side of the state you will find a Butterfly museums as well as those dedicated to various authors including Dr. Seuss. Likewise understand that this is the land in which both, Basketball and Volley Ball got their starts and are most celebrated, either sport having its own hall of fame and museum... for that matter, we have a place honoring the manufacture of whips... kind of tells you just how kinky those early settlers got

You got to do the science museum at MIT worth every penny and really interesting. We stayed in Cambridge which is just over the other side of the Charles river. It was right next to harvard. John Harvards Brewhouse in Harvard square does the best spare rib BBQ sauce I've ever tasted.

Boston City centre is a lot like the city of london in appeareance. Do the Duck tour, lot of fun as is the Aquarium. We found the best way to get round Boston was on the "T" which is there version of the Tube. dirt cheap and very quick. i found the people in Boston were a little learned and aren't as friendly as they are in say Florida, but it's fantastic city.

New Englanders like their basketball (I think it's the lamest sport going around), and they've had a good (American) football team for several years. However, inside the heart and soul of a New Englander is Baseball. Therefore, for a action packed few days...

buy one of these in New York (see link below), and wear it around the Boston area for a few days. You'll be sure to get plenty of attention...

This is partly due to the fact that both, Basketball and Volley Ball got their start here... in fact, just south of where I live. Springfield, MA is the home to the Basketball Hall of Fame but then we also have the Smith & Wesson Gun Museum down that way along with the Dr. Seuss Museum and just a bit north of here, the Butterfly Museum.

New England is quite diverse in all truth; you will find dozens of small "museums" dedicated to numerous authors and political leaders of note. Then again, visiting Brits tend to avoid places like Bunker Hill and certain other sites where the rag tagged American militia kicked the empire's butt

If I were coming to the MA coast I'd get in touch with some of the mage types that are based out that way such as Tony Eye, David Birtwell, or Vlad/Don Deutch (sp?). David in particular, is a great host and tour guide
