Decks warp. It's a fact of life. Do you guys have any suggestions that might help in taking out that annoying warp? What I do is put the entire deck under a heavy stack of books. This takes care of the problem, but not entirely. Any other DIY ideas?

flatten them with something heavy in a hot place for about half an hour to an hour, then pu them somewhere cool for the rest of the day under the heavy stuff. (assuming you do it in the morning.)

One of the magi sites (can't remember which one but will have a look and post if / when found again) sells a card clamp for this purpose. Think it was around £12 and you put the cards between the two boards and tighten the screws.

Anyone else seen it?

I believe you mean the Presto card press by Norm Nielson, the cheapest I have seen it is £25 though.

It seems very expensive for what it is.
I am sure you could construct a similar device yourself for pennies.

No - it wasn' this one as I recall that the ad was illustrated with a photo and the press itself was bright red.

I have just had another look around and found a red press for $24.95

Is this more like the one you meant ?

make your own 2 bits of ply about 9mm 4 coach bolts and 4 wind nuts drill holes insert bolts

and theres your press

also if you dampen the card then put a bit of blotting paper bettween the cards it will help

Heavy books will work just aswell as these presses advertise....the reason why most decks warp is because the way moisture from the hands and surounding air is absorbed by thecards...

The damp enters throughthe sides and reaches the middle ofthe card last wjich causes some of the card to expand by only a few thousands of a milemeter but still causes the cards to warp.

So to try and get your cards nearly new again dou just need slugt preasure from a few heavy books but leave them as long as posible in a dry place..(NOT THE AIRING CUPBOARD BECAUSE THAT WILL DRY THE CARDS TOO QUICKLY AND THEY WILL BECOME BRITTLE AND PROBABLY STAY WARPED BECAUSE THE MOISTER HAS DRIED OUT TOO QUICKLEY)
...That will do the job....

sounds like too much work - I'd just buy a new deck, or use them for card warp..

where in the world did you get all this stuff?! is there an in-depth discourse on cards that teach this stuff? if so, where could I find one? This is really interesting stuff.

I thought it was just me that ended up with warped cards as I've never ever come across this before. Up until now I've just chucked the deck and got a new one (after all they are fairly cheap) but I like the idea of a press, especially for gaff making (never thought of that and I haven't had too much success with heavy books).
