S&S/Coin Unique [[[ and Blu Tac

Postby caubeck » Dec 27th, '04, 18:13

I have found that a tiny amount of blu tac squashed into the inner rim of a [ makes any Coin Unique or S&S set 95% examinable. To separate, use either a m* or a bang ring.

Okay, that's not a huge nugget of information but I only got blu tac for Xmas and I'm making the most of it...boo hoo...

Anything with a [ requires you to put the [ the right way round to coincide with the rest, so that's one possible problem. (My way around this is to hold the [ upright and then to remember at what angle the image on the insert must be for the back to be upright, too. For example, on one coin I know the queen must be looking towards 2 o'clock when she enters.)

The second thing is the sound the coins make when placed or dropped on the table. I have not been busted yet, but anyone knowing what they ought to sound like would become suspicious.

Your worrying over something that you needent. You should switch out the gaff as you returntheir coin back to the spectator. This takes virtualy no technical skill, and as an end result, the coin is 100% safe.
I wouldnt sugest that anything is put into a fake, as in time the build up will push the inner, out.

Here in Spain things are a little more complicated. You rarely carry more than one s&s set in your pocket but people might lend you euros of any European country. I don't want to make changing the country of origin of the coin a part of the trick, so I rarely borrow coins for a performance.

However, I carry with me an Italian 2 euro, two different Spanish 50 cent pieces, and one Dutch 50 cent piece just in case I can use them. All nests.

In many s&s routines the spectator ends up with the coin in their hands. Until all the different European coins have blended people still look at which ones they have in their change.

Anyway, what it all boils down to is that if I want to use gaffs for any particular routine I am forced to take extra care. Blu Tac is working well, so I'll be using it till the non-gaffed coin routines I do outnumber the gaffed ones.
