First Paid Gig! Woo hoo!

Well, admittedly not in the magic sense, but my band, The Dirty Protest (it's a prison law term: Google it) have our debut gig at Night & Day in Manchester on Monday 23rd March 2009 at 21:45. Pretty ecstatic, as it's a great venue and is the first step in our campaign to start playing larger venues across Greater Manchester. Think indie meets rock, has the b*stard offspring of bluesgrass, followed by jazz, ska and funk siblings, and sprinkle with generous toppings of angstful melody and a touch of flamenco in there. Yours truly is the lead singer, guitarist and lyricist. Feeling pretty awesome. You're all welcome to attend. Will be posting our myspace link as soon as we get it sorted.

Yup, it's the one next to Dry Bar, sandwiched between that and the Mint Lounge. It is our ideal gig, and quite a good un for our first gig, having circumvented the usual pub toilet venues! Come along and bring a posse, it'd be great for us and for yourselves as you're in for an aural treat. There's a few lyrics about magic in there as well. Further, it's promising as we've been given a free live studio recording studio session to record an album so are waiting for the right time to use that card.

Also, if you do attend, please ensure that on the door you say you've come to see The Dirty Protest specifically, as the music manager will be making copious notes of how well we do so that we may potentially headline our own night. That way I can give up my day job! I've never liked criminals anyway...

Thought i'd update you all on my band's first gig at Night & Day, Manchester. We have now confirmed our second gig at the increasingly infamous Moho Live (where in recent times The Ting Tings and Little Boots have played and had a burst of notoriety and exposure) on Good Friday 10th April. You're welcome to come along.

It truly was sublime and I am absolutely ecstatic from the post gig vibes, having booked time off work. Turnout was amazing, and whilst we all had sweat problems on stage, it was great to feel that surge of tangible excitement and buzz from the audience, and it felt pretty rock star-ish for the other bands to admit gracious defeat, and for randoms to generally massage our egos, mmmwahahaha! Suffice it to say there was a lot of magic offstage as well as onstage. Mental note: remember to ignite a copious amount of flash paper during set.

We have only been a 4 piece for 3 weeks, and so the myspace does not have songs on yet, but we anticpate to record in few weeks. In the meantime, please feel free to check out our info on a myspace page on the interweb @
