Juan Tamariz's Sonata

Postby Fabian » Feb 20th, '09, 11:20

Hey TM,
I'm not looking to spend any more money soon, but as I've recently bought Mnemonica (I only recently heard of Juan Tamariz) I've also seen that he's produced four other books in English (and more in Spanish but I can't speak it  ). Out of interest I looked for Sonata and scoured the internet, but I only found it on amazon.com (so I'd have to pay loads for shipping) and there was only one copy. It was $250  . I was wondering if anybody has any of Juan's books other tham Mnemonica, and how much they bought them for, because I'm not sure if $250 is the RRP, or some guy trying to make a load of cash from something in very short demand.

Anyone with Sonata care to add a little review of it, as I'm most interested in that one over his other books.

Thank you,
Fabian. 8)

Dont pay that price for it. Its way too much.

magic books by post hold

Verbal Magic, for £32.00

The Five Points in Magic for £19.79

Mnemonica for £42.00

I am sure that copys of sonata will be available from a dealer somewhere for a lot less than your looking at. Search Second hand magic dealers, not second hand book shops, who have no idea what to charge.

oh, and please, please, please dont be tempted by the vile pirate pdfs of this book that litter the internet.
the trade in such things is abhorrent and should be utterly condemmed.

8) Dale, (I'm typing this on my Wii so I'll keep this short) thanks for your reply. By the way I'd never steal Juan's work, but I know that some sad peple do. It's quite shocking how you see a page of links to pirate sites when you search for a book on google.

By the way, do you mind telling me of some 2nd hand magic dealers, because the book is not on any of the other sites I looked at (e.g. magicbox, magicmagic etc).

Thanks,
Fabian.

I was looking for a copy of this the other night, too. I'm assuming it's out of print at the mo.

Its worth contacting people, just in case they get a copy.
It will also be well worth looking on magicweeks for sale items, and indeed post a wanted adfert on there yourself.
If someone does come up with one, you dont have to buy it if it's too expensive. :)

lord knows. I seem to recall that it originaly sold for between 20 and 30 pounds.
Allowing for it being out of print, and in demand, i would probably say that 50 is the absolute maximum you should pay.
well, its the most i would pay if i wanted it.. which i dont, as im not a card man.

I'm getting really annoyed now. I placed a single ad on MagicWeek including my email address, and now, every single day I'm getting spammed by countless people who I have not even given my email address to. I'm now being offered with loans credit, cards, and many more rediculous things to offer a 15 year old. How can these businesses (some are legitimate, large corporations) spam a 15 year old because they scoured the net and found his small advert for Sonata on a magic site?! It sickens me. What's more, apart from the legitimate offers, I've had obvious scams such as the "you've won a free holiday for your whole family!" with small print saying: offer not free if you take any luggage.

Come on! Give me a break! I've even had money laundering offers linking to dodgy, virus ridden sites. Have any of you who have placed an online ad encountered similar problems? I'm probably in those people's "to spam" list and will not be removed! I've written an angry letter to personal loan company just now though. That made me feel better. 8)

I basically said they were t***s and to kindly take me of their spam list!

SONATA is pretty rare. Over the last 5 years, I've ebay'd 2 HARDBACK (even rarer) copies and got over £150 for each.

I've got a hardback copy of Sonata. Which I bought off of eBay...for around £150.

Perhaps I'm holding one of your copies, Paul.
