Imperfect videos on hobby sites?

Postby Chris_Favoriten » Feb 22nd, '09, 16:26

Dear TalkMagic community,

I would like to bring forth an issue that deals with my own private website and maybe start a discussion on it (the issue).

I have started a semipro website to promote my type of magic and services. The idea to also put a video on my site was found through a friend of mine Rob Labby (The amazing Rob) from USA. Together with a friend of his we made a couple of recordings and through some editing there is now one video to demonstrate my way of magic acts, text in verse and rhyme in combination with a rountine I have modelled. That Tale of the Coffee Spoon is in German, but one can get an idea what it supposed to be all about. Now there is of course low buget and little time to get a 100% demo video. Is it recomendable to post things like this on the web? People will scrutinse the video all over again and might come up to some clues that might even be right cause of some mistakes that happened. Does this or other instances also posted on youtube deminish the effect and the esteem of professionals or magicians. Shall there be no display of skill to promote or shall there be only professional teasers that trigger the attention like with so many magic webshop products? Shall one offer a whole routine though it is imperfect?

Here is the link for those who want to see it: http://members.chello.at/chris.croydon/ ... eutsch.htm you have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the screen and start the play button.

Feel free to comment on the issue or my posting or my page.

Thank you for your attention
yours magically
Chris

chris looked ok to me but watching it with the sound off which i often do to see how a video flows, I didn't get the two handed bit, it didn't seeem to make sense to the rest of the storyline, perhapse the patter / story explains that bit. :?:
some of the loading and ditching shall we say were obviose to a magician but could leave a spectator to wonder why you needed to go to your pocket and a couple of the instant restorations were well, to fast if you understand were I'm coming from. :)

Thanks for comment magicdiscoman,

The two handed bit is actually meant to be bending the spoon with left hand but first levering it to and fro and then it should look like bending to the side and finally twisted over the top to the left in the finger palm of ríght hand. Text is something like "and started to scour it till it burnt": Ditching and snatching still problematic. :(

Bent on the table is from David Williamson's routine and done by him is also done pretty fast see Best of Magic Show UK quite some time ago... The act of Williamson with the racoon routine as final trick. 8)

Bent first is not clear to see: holding with one hand between middle and index finger and thumb shaking it, supposed to look like beeing soft and rubber like, same with pencil and wands found in many magic kits.

Thanks again for commenting...

Cheers
