Chinese astrology magic

Postby Replicant » Feb 26th, '09, 20:32

Does anyone know of any effects on the market that use the Chinese zodiac? I know most of the existing ones that use the western zodiac can probably be easily converted, but I was wondering if there are any marketed effects as I have not come across any. (I'm going to create my own effect using the Chinese zodiac and was curious to see if there are any already out there).

I reworked the 'name a sign' thing to the Chinese zodiac a while back.

I think many people will need a prompt of what their sign is (via a little calendar or 'decoder' that you can get in New Age shops). This helps to ensure that they are thinking of, say, 'pig' instead of 'boar' (or vice versa).

I remember seeing one trick that was specifically about the Chinese zodiac, called 'By the Hand of Fu Hsi': http://www.worldmagicshop.com/by-the-ha ... trick.html

Definitely an effect that is 'sold' by the props and routine. It is, of course, a reworking of a very simple trick.

There's also a Chinese zodiac reference in 'Black Moon' by Docc Hilford, but it's not really a trick.

Thank you, chaps. Being Chinese, I have some suitably oriental paraphernalia lying around that I think I can use, and I've been thinking about gaffing one of those Chinese red packets to use in my zodiac routine; still mulling it over, though.

Mark Leveridge has a nice little effect called Horoscope and I could perhaps convert bits of that over to the Chinese zodiac without too many problems. Hmm, lots of ideas zipping around in my head at the moment; I need to sit down and gather my thoughts on this one.

I'm working on a magician's choice routine using cards with the signs of the zodiac on them, and a whole spiel about fate and choices and stuff.

It's better than I've just made it sound.

None that I can think of at this moment in time. I don't know much about I Ching, truth be told. Never looked into it.

By The Hand Of Fu Hsi uses Chinese astrology.
Edit: just saw this has already been posted.

I know I've seen a set of cards with the symbols on, but can't remember where from. The Bond Agency has a set of I ching cards, but can't find the astrology set.

With a little imagination and magic knowledge, you should find wonderful use of these:
