What DVD shall i get?

Postby Luker21 » Jan 6th, '05, 21:37

Hi there all,

I have been browsing through many a magic website recently and have been wondering for a while what DVD i should get. I am looking for one on card handling. I have some experience with cards but still feel uneasy with everything but the very basic card sleights (overhand shuffle, glide, Elmsley (spent ages on it from twisted sisters!)etc.). I basically want a DVD that will take me in depth into these and help me sort of restart my card handling.

Hope this is a good explanation and any help is very much appreciated!

Why not go for one of Ammars ETMCM DVD's....the sleights are never hard and there are some very strong tricks on there...which is the point at the end of the day.

OR....go for John Guastaferro's Brainstorm DVD's...they are VERY good (review later)

Basic card technique by Richard Kauffman is a good place to start (though he does wear some really bad shades in the dvd!)

School of Hard Knocks is a good one too.

Sankey-tised (by Jay Sankey) has a few basic sleights, and some good tricks as well......if you are looking for some more serious flourishes, sleights, etc, then try anything by Jeff Mcbride

I would highly suggest Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights,

It will give you a much better understanding of card magic and moves, all of them are taught well.

There are also some mediocre tricks that you will learn, which will easily impress friends and family.

I believe that it is the best place to start.

There's also a guy here in the states who's turning out a new one, Jason Wethington. Although I think it's a mix of coin and card.

I second that.

Or if you want some extremely crazy stuff, you've just got to check out Brian Tudor's stuff... INSANE!

Sleights

Postby katrielalex » Mar 14th, '05, 10:15

If you still need practice on the basics, I would recommend Born to Perform Card Magic (by Oz Pearlman). It covers everything from the DL to triple false cuts, so it'll last you a good long while.

Have a look at it!

Luker,
Ineternational Magic are currently selling off a load of videos (sadly not DVDs) for 7 quid a go. Included in their sale stock are Daryls card sleightsseries, which is fantastic and also a number of Ammars Easy to Master series.

Not DVDs I know, but a fraction of the price.

relearning cards

Postby kardtrik » Mar 23rd, '05, 10:37

I agree with all of the above, and wasn't even going to post here, but you sould be doing yourself a disservice by not buying Mike Ammar's video series. (Easy to Master Card Miracles)

they will reintroduce you to sleights you might have known back in the day, as well as introduce you to sleights you never learned...all the while teaching you rock solid, time-tested routines that kill. There is not one routine in the series that will fail to slay your audiences, and it will reintroduce you to sleight of hand at a pace that will be comfortable to you.

Some of the videos mentioned above--well, all of the videos mentioned above--are fantastic, but some are technically demanding. Ammar's videos are situated by skill level, and even the most basic trick will fry any of your laymen friends. You can't go wrong with this series.

My too sense
