Derren Brown - Messiah

Postby Mandrake » Dec 9th, '04, 10:10

Although I like the guy a lot, I'm not referring to him as a Messiah! No, according to Teletext this morning, it's the title of his new programme due for transmission on Channel 4 on January 7th 2005 and, all being well, will stir up a lot of controversy. Derren plans to show how religious beliefs can be tinkered with and how relatively easy it is to plant ideas in the minds of some folks. His argument is that for many years some priests and elders in religion have been unwittingly passing on flawed information and he will show how this is done. As a committed Christian in his student time, Derren says he now feels embarrassed by a lot of what he did in those days.

The Séance programme drew a lot of criticism from 'christians' before transmission so they were obviously psychics as well and it will be interesting to see what gets stirred up on January 7th!

It was truly a great show, he said he's not really a Messiah he's basically doing it to see if the notice he is actually joking, but what a great way to show it, brilliant man excellent show.

rather than just being a guest, why not sign in and become part of the forum rather than just a nameless nobody?

Thought the the show was excellent, and as ground-breaking as always.

It seemed a very British show, i.e starting in a London Taxi Cab and then flying to America, to lie to a lot of Americans - Ha!
I liked it when he said "You wouldn't kow me if you were British either!!" - Ha, erm...I think we do!!

...and I liked it when he said,"Let the ideas sail through your mind" and then she drew a boat - class!!

An excellent hours worth of TV and for once I hope that it's not too long before they show a repeat - or the second coming.

There's no doubt that this programme will have stirred up a hornets nest and another backlash against Derren which I'm sure will be the subject of many interesting posts on this site (fingers crossed).

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I also enjoyed it, always a good idea to have your beliefs challenged.

I also loved the show, I willbe driving myself mad trying to figure out some of those. I think the one that stood out the most to me was the 'converting with a touch'. How the hell he did that bewilders me. If anyone has any insight whatsoever please do tell.
