I just love how Alan Moore doesn't refer to his books as "graphic novels"... he writes comic books. That literary critics and the world at large seems to equate comic books with immaturity is not his problem, and the desire to change the language to make it more palatable is just amusing.

For some reason I'm quite excited about Watchmen. It's not going to be good, but it looks as though it might not be awful. That, of course is a pretty staggering achievement given the subject. I rarely see the need for adaptions of any sort - each medium has it's own language, after all.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

feel like i have to justify myself here,

the reason i bought it is because my mate in work read it a long time ago and said that it was where the whole smiley face logo came from which was then borrowd by the whole acid house scene. I didnt even know there was a film made until he told me the book was in HMV.

i suppose i feel the same when it comes to dance music - a really popular underground tune becomes mainstream and the vinyl i searched ages for is all over the high street. My way of thinking is that if some people like it, they might decide to do some reasearching into the scene and end up being 'proper' fans, then everyones a winner.

The smiley face dates back to about 1970, so well before Watchmen. I remember drawing cartoons of Smiley and Smiledorf for my school friends in 1971. (Smiledorf was Smiley's dog, by the way, and my own invention.)

Ok, the film is excellent even if the ending seems to differ from the comics ... and there's NO age limit in Belgium. (Belgians know what a penis is and looks like.)

Lenoir do you happen to have pics of this first edition set of comics? Just interested in what they look like. (No bingo)

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I'm ecstatic about this. Apparently they changed the monster in the end, I guess the film makers thought that nobody would believe a giant psychic squid but a 30 foot tall blue man was fine.
Dave Gibbons said that The Comedian, Nite Owl and Rorschach where done just as he imagined them. I find that to be very promising even though Allen Moore wouldn't even watch it.

Ian, I'm curios as to where you live as I've yet to encounter any trouble regarding my age (15) here in Canada

I'm in the theater as I type this, the movie starts in ten mine, and there are a LOT of nerds here. It's a little scary.

You say, as you type on your computer in the cinema.

Also I've just finished reading my weekly selection of internet comics, this came up in P.V.P http://www.pvponline.com/2009/03/02/ombudsmen/

Okay how about this. This is a thread about a movie based off a comic, on a forum about magic, can anyone here honestly say their not nerds?
