Mask magic

Postby Timothy Robinson » Feb 27th, '09, 21:53

Im not sure if i should put this here, I've been doing magic now for 12 years and I,m currently doing performing arts at college, for one of my grades i need to do a greek monologe and my acting teacher wants me to make a greek mask disappear while I,m doing it but i can't find any magic tricks in any of the online magic shops I use, so if anybody knows how i can do this please tell me.

You may want to rephrase your question along the lines of 'I'm looking for a book or method for sale, that teaches mask magic, where can I buy it?' After introducing yourself. Otherwise people will just assume your not interested in the art of magic and just want to know how certain tricks are done, your thread will be locked and sinbined, you'll be banned, and you won't be able to come back here for when your genuinely looking for help.

No problem, it certainly didn't feel like a 'how do I do this?' post, but the wording was off.

Books and D.V.D's on this don't seem to commonplace and I couldn't find anything (but I didn't look to hard). I'd wait a bit, there's probably someone on this forum with more experience on the subject than me, who could give you better advice.

Also how long till your Greek monologue? Usually to perform something halfway decently in magic you need at least a few months to practice the effect before moving on to the act, but then of course its a collage performance, your allowed to make mistakes.

Basically we're going to help you with every part of the act except the magic.

Im going to be told what to wear on tuesday i think tho if she wants this magic trick in she will most likely let me change it providing it looks greek, the mask is going to be made out of the stuff egg boxes are made of but we are making them ourselfs so i will have the mold to creat a mask of diffrent matrial, she is going to decide when it will be after we have done our play which means iv got atleast untill the 25th of march. It wont let me attach a pic of the mask but I will keep on trying

By "the stuff egg boxes are made of", do you mean papier mache?

Your costume may be very important, as will whether the mask must vanish completely, or if you want to bring it back. I can think of a couple of methods, but it's very hard to say for certain if they'd work for your performance.

i would construct it in two pieces, so that the mask can vanish into a smaller place than you would expect.
also, what will you be wearing as the rest of the costume?

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

What sort of toga? (Which is Roman, incidentally, but the Classical Greek costume, the tunic, sometimes looked a bit like a toga.)

Is it just a plain tunic, or do you have some kind of cloth draped over a shoulder? http://www.buycostumes.com/Greek-Noblem ... sc21850465

And what colour is it?

Surely if you've been doing magic for 12 years you can understand why the exact costume is important. :)
