Oh I totally know I'm in the wrong and I would have fully accepted the 80 quid fine as my due punishment. I just have an issue with it being seized over tax. No one I've talked to has heard of it happening for that. Insurance most certainly but never tax!

I know it's no excuse but money is tight and I have a big stage show on this week which should set me up nicely for a bit. As priorities go, car tax on a safe, insured car took a lower priority for a week.

I am afraid the British members here do not understand the Irish culture. In the UK naturally there would be great tut-tutting and law enforcement over the issue.

However Ireland is different. As I have stated law enforcement is the exception rather than the rule. In England nobody would be surprised to find the police pouncing over this. The reason Harry is upset is that he didn't expect it. The guards caught him off guard-no pun intended.

I well remember that when I was there fully 20% of the driving population had no insurance for their cars. It may have changed now but that was the norm then.

The Irish are lax over things like this so when they occasionally crack down it is a bit of a shock. That is why Harry is upset I suspect.

And yes. Canada is indeed very boring. Even the female impersonators are women.

End of rant.

so what your saying is you broke the law, and the police did their job.

nothing wrong here.It should happen more often.

To be honest - I agree with Dale  .

A day over .... a week over ..... a month over - they are all the same in my opinion - your tax was out of date and you were driving an untaxed car. If your car had run out of insurance a week ago and you had an accident ..... you can see where this is going.
Okay, so no car tax is no-where near as serious as no insurance, but rules are rules (like them or not) and you broke the rules.

Sorry for sounding so harsh - I do kinda sympathise with you, but ........

Agree 100%. Why should I have to pay pay car tax on time and display it appropriately by law if you shouldnt have to?? If you decide to learn to drive, pass your test, buy a car etc, you are taking the responsibility of being a motorist. Regardless of how good condition your car is in, you should have paid your tax.

If the point of your post is to complain that you had to get a taxi to a gig then good, im glad you didnt make any profit because of your blatent disregard for the laws of motoring. If you are so bothered about getting to your gigs then you should be taxing your car and class your car as part of your business if you rely on it to get to gigs.

Regards,

Mark

My car is taxed but the disc still hasn't turned up since the end of Feb!

I've not driven the thing since but I have to take it for an MOT today.

I called the police and told them what has happened, they've taken the details and if I get pulled all will be fine.

You can register car tax on line and it takes minutes, the call to the police was only another couple of minutes on top of that.

I'm a bit annoyed I've been without my car for 3 weeks due to the disc not turning up though but would rather be legal on the roads.

P.S if your car isn't taxed then surely you're not insured either? In which case they were right to seize the thing?

As we don't want to be seen to be promoting or condoning any law breaking, no matter in what respect, we'll call it a day on this thread.
