I just hope I never have to deal with the company you work for, then. DPA is a safeguard to make sure your personal data is kept safe, not an excuse for poor customer service.
That's a fair comment - although I don't think that using DPA as a "get-out" necessarily means poor customer service.
I appreciate what you're saying about it being about protecting your personal data but some people know all the ins and outs of DPA - I suppose you probably fall into that category - and some people know nowt about it.
It's the people who are ignorant of DPA that will complain abot the fact that our company doesn't do something as absurd as storing a credit card number where any operator can access it.
"What do you mean I have to get my wallet out to pay? That's a bit c*** (not the best) isn't it". Personally I'd go mental if I thought someone was holding my card details where anybody could access it!
I too think poor customer service is a Bad Thing - and will say that I have never had so much as a groan about the level of my customer service - I'm dedicated to the job and hard working.
If someone has a beef with me saying "Data Protection Act" then they're more than welcome to take it up with my supervisor, but at the end of the day, if it stops customers complaining then it's a good thing in my eyes - some poor schmuck on my end has to fill in the complaints log at the end of the day

EDIT: That turned into a bit of a rant didn't it

Sorry kolm, nothing personal
