Gary has a very dangerous self delusion but his 'patients' are even more worrying. Despite hard evidence that he hadn't 'cured' her in any way, that one lady returned to him for more treatment and even defended Gary. I know there's a point when people will cling to almost any shred of hope but surely this isn't it? Best part for me was the old guy being treated with Gary's hands on his head and he was asked what he was being treated for. The guy couldn't remember so asked his daughter and she immediately replied, 'Alzheimer's'. Not very funny I suppose but it made me smile! I'm quote convinced that the only thing Gary has to offer is his time and attention which seemed to be sadly lacking from the NHS in the cases covered. If you're sidelined by mainstream medicine, there's only the 'alternative' kind left.

The BadSceptics' guy came across as being a bit harsh and pompous but that might just be the way it was edited, I think they may have been able to offer more evidence to be followed up but at least the Beeb obtained the services of a qualified medial practitioner to check as much as possible. What we didn't get to learn was how many 'patients' have died despite receiving Gary's treatment and how he would explain that away. Perhaps a further programme could check into the sudden rash of Oriental Herb and Treatment shops which seem to be in every city, there must be a few stories to be told in that respect.

The whole new age thing didn't come over well, did it?

what did come across, was there is definatly a "type" that goes to these things.overweight middle aged ladies, and balding older men, looking for love.(The widow count presumably being higher at these events, than down the pub, or in Tesco)

It was also quite clear that 'New Age' is big business with a lot of money involved. I wonder how many of those exhibiting at the Psychic Fairs genuinely believed in what they were doing or were there just to make money. Nothing wrong with that of course, most commercial firms actively promote their benefits but have to make a living as well, but in the case of taking money from those who are at some sort of desperation level and with no real guarantees, it somehow seems very grubby.

I loved the narrator trying not to laugh at the idea of a psychic stripper...

Also enjoyed Abraham sounding a lot like a bad impression Winston Churchill...

Remember "Enemies of Reason" with (I'll whisper his name in case someone hears) Richard Dawkins? The bloke who gave him a reading at a psychic fair was absolutely rubbish at it, and yet, he was clearly there to make some brass out of it.

He he: where there's belief there's brass. That's nearly as good as "cash from chaos"!

I see exactly the same thing elsewhere though - particularly the world of vitamins and dietry supplements.

Take this example:
