
Yes it is indeed a very sad day for real magicians.
Abra has an unbeatable record of being published,
on the publishing date every week, since 1946.
Even when my old friend Don Bevan was editor and had a very bad car accident which laid him low for some time, his family went in and Abra appeared on time.
And it's all very well talking about e magazines and on line magazines, which are useful for up to the minute news, but they are
Temporary
ABRA was The Printed Word and the
only full record of British Magic,
& its performers over the last 63 years.
We have lost OUR History Book.
It had its critics but don't 90% of magicians criticise...usually destructively and rarely constructively.
I heard this morning, from a young professional, how when performing in a Society's Show, the other magicians pulled other performers in that show, to pieces & after each performer in question had left the dressing rooms.
A sad state which is prevalent amongst magicians today; usually those who cannot perform well themsleves. They only think they can.!!
Abra was always fair.
I shall treasure the 3 bound volumes and the 100+ copies I still have.
The rest have been passed onto young magicians in the hope that they too, treasure the copies & respect what has gone before.
Tradition plays a huge role in ALL Arts, especially Performing Arts
