Bicycle defects

Postby cragglecat » Mar 30th, '09, 21:08

I recently bought a box of 12 packs of bicycle 808s poker size cards. I've used 2 packs and both had defects albeit of a fairly minor nature. The most recent pack had a ragged edge to one card and the card also appeared to be slightly thicker than the other cards in the deck. Is it common to get defects like this? I've never noticed it before. Is it possible I've been sold some kind of factory rejects or have I just been unlucky? This was an ebay bulk buy special!

It's possible you were sold a brick of seconds, cunningly packaged in standard Bicycle cases. Are any of the back designs slightly off centre? That's usually a give away.

Did you buy it from Alakazam? Got a brick off them about a month ago and the cards don't feel right... The edges are rougher and they're slightly thinner (deck is about 2 cards shorter than a new deck that wasn't bought from Alakazam (and yes I took the jokers out!)) Now obviously I can't say anything and would look like an idiot ringing up Alakazam and saying "My bikes feel weird... can I have some new ones?"

It would be a bit of a hassle, but if you look at the Guarantee joker it states "If a manufacturing defect is found in the deck that makes it unusable for normal game play, and it is returned before it had been extensively used, we will be glad to replace it. Return the Ace of Spades and the defective card to:" and they give their address.

It may be worth a test run with one deck you are unhappy with. I would send along a note explaining the defect as it may not be obvious to the person who originally receives the cards.

This is very interesting indeed. There's another recent thread somewhere (I can't find it because I'm just a girl and I don't know about technology and stuffs...) where we're discussing this same thing with Seconds from MagicBox. This is a really big issue to me! Thinner, mankier cards!

I bet either Lenoir or Replicant will be able to find and link to the thread I'm talking about :)

No I remember it and it was what made me think about my cards a bit more.

I hat an interesting chat with Pat Fallon at the weekend about it. Apparently it is cheaper for dealers to buy bikes of cosco(I think) than off the USPC Co. and so he suspects that many of them might be buying them and doing a little repackaging.

Thanks all. The back designs are definetly off centre. Now I come to think of it I was suspicious when they arrived because I received 7 blue back packs and 5 red back packs in a box of 12 which suggested re-packing.

No, I bought them from an ebay seller called 'matsandbits'.

This is looking like I have some reject packs then? To be fair to the seller they have always responded quickly and efficiently. Maybe they have sold these unwittingly? Did I mention I also believe in the tooth fairy? In all seriousness perhaps I should give them the benefit of the doubt?

I could try this but it is probably not worth the effort as I'm based in the UK and the return address is US.

Yes, but all you need to do is send the Ace of Spades and another card (if I am reading the guarantee correctly, there is no need to send the entire deck) along with a note and an envelope. I guess ti depends on the cost of mailing a letter from the UK to the US.
