Epiphone 335s are lovely guitars - does yours have a high action? The few I've seen have looked beautifully easy to play!

Anyway, I largely agree with you - just get out and play the thing. :D

My problem with all of the modern-styled guitars; ESP, Ibanez etc is that I think you really have to be pretty good to warrant them. Nothing like seeing someone strum G-C-D on a guitar with thirty million accessible frets and a floyd rose tremolo  I just don't play any kind of style that would require such a ultility device of a guitar so I prefer the traditional styles, with all the flaws that people love about them.

I don't know about all these modern pieces of equipment, I've had a Telecaster for years and it's done everything I've wanted - that guitar hasn't changed structurally since 1951.

Lucky I am, then. I can play all the notes there are, and that stick thing can make them go boi-oi-oi-oing, too! ;) :P

I have a round-back electro acoustic which I do mainly just strumming along to a bit of Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen, but I miss having a decent electric like the one I posted, where I can bust out a bit of Pantera or Machine Head or RATM. I also love a bit of early Metallica or Megadeth, before they became softies.

And I play pool.

Sometimes I even pee standing up. Usually when someone says "Show me a card trick"...

Have to agree with you there Farls. I do so hate seeing kids running around ( most of the time not literally ) with expensive guitars they can barely play, or playing flashy guitars but not utilising the flashy bits.

If someone strolled in packing one of them 7 string Ibanez jobbers, i'd want to hear Vai's For The Love Of God or something similar blasting my ear drums or what's the point in using it?

And yes Stoner, Queenie does sound too good to be true. Bet she's a bloke really. Got to be. Can never tell on these Forums you know. Despite my avatar, im not really the Crack Fox. See how easy it is to fool people?

Reverend Horton Heat > Speed metal. I do enjoy some metal bands (Converge, Slayer, the usual suspects) but Jim Heath is something else. I think seven-string guitars should only be sold to people who can play Psychobilly Freakout from beginning to end. And on a real guitar, not just Guitar Hero.

Why is that? :? I am under 40, but I grew up listening to Eric as well as his past bands. I own all his CDs, several records, a few live dvds and seen him live in concert 3 times.

Though he isnt my only favorite. Theres alot I could list, as I grew up with the "greats" and "oldies."
My top would have to be, I know its said alot, SRV. Just to watch him play is something else. Then theres Carlos Santana, B.B. King, Led Belly, Eddie... I could name more that I like, but thats a long list.

To answer the original Question- I took up guitar last September. Been practicing when ever I have time. Its just something for me to pass time with and hang out with the guys and play our guitars.
I bought it for my birthday:

I am mostly playing country and some rock. Once I get better I will move into blues and Slide Guitar.

haha you've just mentioned all my least favourite guitar players...

clapton was never good? never heard him with john mayall and the bluesbreakers, nor Blind Faith? (let alone Cream)...he wasn't God...just Good...

anyway - all this talk of fancy guitars...pah

as someone who has been playing since he was 14...soooooo, 22 years now - i don't really care what make you give me, cheap or expensive, if its got a nice low action and sounds nice and warm when you play - then thats all i want...

i've played far better 80-100 quid guitars than the hundreds of pounds (and more) that i've tested out over the years...same with certain acoustics too...

warmth and tone is everything....

I'm with Iain - I will play any guitar I can get my hands on. The ridiculous price tags always make me laugh - as do the jackasses noodling on them in the local store.

Recently, the urge has been gnawing at me to pick up a new guitar. I really want to pick up a nice, inexpensive Tele...

Hopefully I win that poker tournament in 2 weeks!!!

Clapton was great in his day, no question. But look back at the "Clapton is God" stuff and it was all about the fact that he was louder, faster, flashier than everyone else around then. (Until Hendrix and Beck came along). Someone in the 1960s raving about Clapton is just like someone in the 1980s (me probably) raving about Vai and Satriani because of their monster technique. They were all the fastest and flashiest at that point in time - hence the guitar hero worship. In 1966 Clapton was, to all intents and purposes, a shredder! IMHO of course :D

BTW there is a great jam session at the Rising Sun pub in Slough every Thursday evening. I'm going there this week to play a few numbers including Satriani's "Surfing with the Alien", which should be fun.

Now added to my collection I have a Cruiser Bass so I can just play about.

My Takamine acoustic has also now been played by and signed by Alkaline Trio

I wanted to post this in the P&F thread but I saw this one first...

I've just finished modifying my new(ish) epiphone valve junior amp head, half expecting it to go "fizz pop" when I turned it on but blow me if it doesn't work like a charm! Managed to put a few holes in my hand filing out various sections for new components, but it's worth it.

I'm really excited about my set up now. Might even take some photos... :D
