A jugular vein in a juggler's girl

Postby Jesse » Apr 15th, '09, 10:40

Hello!

I'm Jesse. I'm half Canadian half Finnish. I'm a diaboloist/juggler whatever you want to call it. I've done diabolo for five years, juggling for 3, contact juggling for almost a year and yoyo for about two weeks (of course I had a yoyo when I was a kid, but this is a "real" yoyo).

I was exremely interested in magic in elementary school. I even had a short routine! All crappy tricks of course, but I was very proud of myself. I've forgotten everything I could do then and it was mostly magic kits from Toys R Us and some tricks of my own. I've always been into magic, but for whatever reason kind of forgot about it. Then I started juggling and have gotten pretty good at that. Diabolo is my main prop and I should have a promo video ready pretty soon. I've got a video online and will show it if anyone's interested. After starting diabolo I also got into toss juggling. Last summer I met a lot of contact jugglers in Vancouver and of course I had to start that. I fell in love with isolations and that's what I mostly practice now. The illusionary side of CJ also reminded me of my love to magic. Later I saw some card manipulation videos on the CJ forums and really loved what I saw!

A few months later I decided that I have to start learning card magic again. (I'm mostly interested in that area) I contacted friend of mine who's a magician and he gave me three DVDs to watch. Yesterday I watched "Daryl Does the Full Monte" and I think I'm going to start working on that! So yeah I'm a beginner at magic, but a fairly experienced juggler/manipulator.

Sorry for the long intro.

-Jesse

Hello and welcome to TM. Great intro. The deck you speak of is called the ID and is available from any magic dealer. It is inexpensive and can be a life-saver, if you catch my drift. ;)

Hiya, welcome to TM :D

A great book to get you started is Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic, well worth getting hold of a copy.

If you like the ID, you should look into the Brainwave deck, too. It's a similar deck, but some people prefer it to the ID.

Hi, welcome to TM!

I'm a contact juggler turned magician myself.

You mention meeting a bunch of CJers in Vancouver, and whilst I know this is a long shot, did you happened to meet a guy called Ryan Mellors? He taught me to contact juggling when I was just starting out, he's a great teacher. It's because of him that I'm really into illusion style contact juggling.

Woa! I read her original post and was about to write what you just said nearly word for word!

Welcome to TM. a few of us have discussed trying combining CJ and magic; so far I'm yet see anyone accomplish this (without it being very "here is some magic, now here is some contact juggling")

Welcome to TM. Can I ask a stupid question, what is contact juggling? I keep seeing it mentioned on here and I haven't a clue!

Craig.

Yep I met Ryan. He's my number one idol. Haha. Do you guys visit/live in Vancouver? Would be nice to meet you this summer.

Contact juggling is... I'm actually in a bit a hurry so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_juggling
